Question about Amana Easy Reach AFD2535DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Refrigerator Smell I have had a very strong "chemical-like" smell in my refrigerator/freezer for over a month now. The refrigerator is about 14 years old and still runs nice and cold. The smell seemed to come on suddenly. I have cleaned it, used baking soda, and had a repairman come. (He changed a minor part which he said was "burnt"). Nothing has worked. The smell gets in all my food and ice. Help!

Yes, the smell does seem to be more in the freezer than the frig. I was away for the weekend and when I took my first whiff after returning home, it struck me as smelling very much like alcohol. I will keep your tips in mind as I pursue this problem and I'll let you know if I find out you guessed it! Thanks!!

My GE Profile top freezer has a chemical smell, seems to blow in from the back when the motor is running. I've shut it down, removed all the food, all the trays, bins and shelves. I have scrubbed down the inside walls of both the fridge and freezer with mild soap, Fantastik, and then rubbed down the walls with lemon juice...plug back in, and the smell blows back into the freezer. The repairman says he cannot fix a smell. This is so bizarre. any dieas?

The air blowing from inside the back of my Frigidaire Gallery's freezer smells like mildew or mold. The odor came on suddenly about a month ago and affects the taste of the ice and food in the refrigerator. The refrigerator is about five or so years old. I've cleaned it and vacuumed the back dust out of it but it still smells. I don't know what to do. Mary

the weird thing is that the smell comes and goes. I wouldn't care as much if it were just a smell, but I dont want to eat food that tastes like a chemical, could it be bad for my health?

our consul gas fridge is smelling, we have cleaned the flu, and where the gas comes out, ie where the flame is. The flame seems to be extra big and turning the settings down doesn't change the size of the flame. thank you for your help.

Haier 10.3 cubic fridge. All of a sudden a horrible smell is coming from the fridge and freezer. The food in freezer is frozen and food in fridge is cold so the food seems fine can't figure out where the smell is coming from.

Is the problem more in the freezer than the fridge section. If it is it is possible that on a defrost cycle the heaters which warm the coil may have warped and ar heating something they shouldnt. Another possibility is if there is something in the condensate tray (where the water collects) or something touching the compressor which runs very hot, or even the compressor relay if it is a 'plastic' smell. Smells are notoriously bad things to trace as engineers normally turn up when the smell is either gone or so faint as to not to detect. All I can suggest is trying to narrow the search area as much as you can and hopefully youll find it. Hope this is of some help.

The smell is coming from the condenser heating up which should be located all around the outside of the box. When it is in pull down from being warm the condenser will get very hot and the smell would be the spray foam and any other chemicals in the vicinity heating up. I believe that you might have a coolant leak causing the chemical odor. You really should get it checked out by a fridge repair-person because it's not healthy to breathe in the fumes.
