Question about Toshiba 57H82 57" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Toshiba 57h82 I am having a problem with the touch focus option on my tv. Last night the picture got blurry. It looks like picture has red and green shadows. I have tried the convergence setting, the red and blue line up, but the green cross is way off. It will not let me move it. Any suggestions will be greatly helpful. Thanks!

Right now, the red and blue are together, but the green cross will not move and the red and blue crosses will not move that far to the green one. Does this require removing the back panel of the TV and some how realigning it? I don't know much about how these tv's work. I have access to the convergence set up in the menu of the TV. It asks me to select red or blue to align, but there is no green align. Right now the convergence screen looks like this +(red & blue together) and green is about a half of a cross to the right.

    Any ideas?

red convergence problem: red vertical convergence will not move

  • hghaznavi Jul 27, 2008

I think i have a similar problem. A week ago all the colors got unaligned and after manually doing convergence, i was able to get the green and blue to align, but the red would not fully align. Also when I run the automatic convergence setup, after it completes it states "convergence error". Mainly the red is out of alignment.

I have seen couple of solutions which state that I need to replace some IC's. Is there some document/manual that specifies what I need to replace. Could somebody give me some suggestions on what I need to do or point me to a forum post that already covers the issue I'm having. If somebody has a link to the manual that would be great. My email address is [email protected] I would hate to send this thing to the landfill, if its something simple to fix, its a great tv.

    Thanks in advance.

1) pull chassis--replace both convergence IC's for reliability.

2)Never manually move yoke rings unless yoke and/or CRT

are replaced.

3)Solder any/all bad connects,esp.jumper wire connectors

supplying B+ to convergence circuitry.

4)Re-check alignment.

Magnaovox rear projection tv has too much red in the picture and it is blurry

Sounds like a coolant issue with the CRTs. Look into the lens of the green and blue CRTs and you should see what looks like bacteria if the coolant nees replacement. Usually the green and blue get contaminated which dims them and makes the red become dominate and the picture will get dim and out of focus.

Blurry and colors are seperated red green white

if you are viewing from a projection tv, chances are you have to go thru the menu of the tv to 'picture tuning'. here it gives you different things that could be fixed. one to look for is 'lamp alignment'. It should show all the colors and lines with directions to bring them into focus. This should fix the blurriness and 3-d red/green/white separations. hope this helps you!

Samsung Rear Projection Problem (not convergence)

The tv has 2 focus adjustments for each tube, mechanical and electrical.

1. Mechanical focus is set by looking at screen from back (through inspection plate on back of most samsungs) and rotating the lens assembly on CRT. loosen wing nut and turn lens assembly to go through focus and back to best position.

Put convergence pattern on screen and manually misadjust bottom red and green lines convergence so they can be seen through inspection hole.

With back cover of TV off you can usually reach your hand up beside the lens assembly to loosen the wing nut then rotate to adjust. Green is in the middle. The focus will be obvious when you rotate and look

When you are finished make sure the foam dust protector is not over any of the lens assemblies and the wing nut is tight.

2. Electrical focus - located at front of unit. the front grille/speaker cover is removed and maybe a cover over the front crt inspection hole.

In the inspection hole there is a black plastic "Focus/screen adjust Assembly" with 2 rows of 3 controls.

One row is focus and the other is screen. The middle controls are for green with R/B on either side. Usually the controls are labelled as "focus" and "screen". You want to adjust the focus controls, one for each color. Look for the focus or screen label imprinted in the plastic. Don't play with the screen settings.

With the same misadjusted convergence pattern you can see a red, blue and green line. Adjust green focus and watch green line for best focus. Do same for other 2.

Screen adjustments are very exact and delicate. The easiest way to deal with them is to turn color off in Customer adjust menu. Put any color tone adjustments in the middle (low, med, high, put at med).

You should have a b/w picture if there are no crt or other color related faults. If it is close to B/W leave screens alone.

If the pix is too green, then the green screen setting must be reduced a small amount. Do not play with these adjustments as most TV repairrers have a difficult time adjusting them.

If focus adjustments don't help then focus control or CRT may be defective. Needs expert to determine.

Does the unit have a flash or auto focus function? Check your menu. Some of the newer projection TV's have a auto focus function that may correct the problem.
