My side by side GE refrigerator (GSS25xGP) is making a loud sound every now and then. I think it's coming from the back, but I can't tell for sure. The contents in the main part of the refrigerator are freezing, even if I keep turning down the temperature down. What is the problem?

The problem is; you don't know what to do when the refrigerator is freezing, and don't want to call a repair service technician to pay for the proper (and efficient) fix when the solution is outside the expertise of home handyman - who doesn't know a lot about your refrigerator.

suspect you have a problem with the defrost system and hence the noise with the fan. take back panel off inside the freezer and if i'm right, melt ice off with a hairdryer. get back to me to say the results if you want

Unplug and closely examine the area for a loose fan blade or anything that may be causing the noise. Better now than to get damage that could be prevented. Let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: The refrigerator temperature keeps dropping

I had the same problem with my GE GSS25LGMB and after some googling I learned that the damper door might be broken. Indeed after I took off the damper assembly the door appeared to be broken at the hinge. This door has its own thermostat and controls the influx of cold air into the fridge which explains the frozen food. I am trying to glue the broken piece back on. See if it works. Othwersie you'll have to replace the entire damper assembly which costs about $91. (http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/cgi-bin/detail.cgi?item=WR49X10091&brand=GEH)

SOURCE: GE side by side keeps frosting up and fridge is not very cold

It sounds like you have a defrost system problem. most commonly its your defrost heater on most GE ref. It can be located by removing the back panel of the freezer. If you remove the heater it can be tested for continuity at any parts distributor. I would also look for the quarter sized thermostat mounted at the top of the coils to see if it looks "popped" at the top. If it is then replace the thermostat. Hope this helps MJ

No water/ice, loud clicking from back side

In this case it points to the motherboard. Just make sure that both fans are working properly before changing the board, I will assit you through the whole job if you want and possibly find the less priced board for your model. Unplug refrigerator and pull away from wall. Then take cover over the motherboard off and examine both sides for signs of heat or burn damage. (You may Need to disconnect pin plug connectors to see the back side). Many times some areas of the board will desolder themselfs from the heat. I will be right back with a photo, part numbers and a link, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Loud clicking soun when ice maker is dispencing ice

I have this refrigerator and have the same problem of a loud popping sound emitting from the icemaker. It is caused by ice cubes becoming stuck between the mechanism and the side of the icemaker. I think it is just poor design. See photo. e7f283a.jpg

Hello Kchoffman73,

It sems we developed the same problem.
The hum seems to be coming from the bottom rear of the
fridge.

we have a GE side-by-side model TFX25JR.
The fridge is about 12 years old.

Whats the status of your fridge ? Did it ever stop
humming ? Did you replace or repair it ?
Does it still work ?

Ge side by side fridge makes loud thud sound...starting/stoping?

I am not sure when yours is making the noise, but I have a GE side by side and mine would make a similar noise when the compressor shut off. Check your warranty paperwork, I think GE has a warranty on the compressor for 5 years. It sounds like your compressor is going bad. If its in warranty, remember " the squeaky wheel gets the oil" complain until they fix it.
Sometimes when the repairman is there, it takes a little pushing to get them going in the right direction and to acknowledge compressor problems. Mine has a new compressor and runs like a champ.

OUR GE SIDE BY SIDE MODEL# GSH25JSTA-SS IS MAKING A STRAINING LOUD NOISE. HELP

Hello.
Can you tell where the sound is coming from, underneath or inside? If it is coming from underneath make sure the coils are clean and the fan below is blowing. Usually the compressor will labor under these conditions. Let me know if these all check out ok and I will go over some other things..
