Check your device manager an make sure the the drivers are loaded. if not reinstall drivers and reinstall the pc5750 aircard software utility BEFORE you install the card. This should solve the problem.

If its a product from verizon then it is linked to a network. What this means is that it has a phone number attached to it which has been programmed on the cd.
It is an aircard and, I am sure, not a plug and play device (a plug and play device installs as soon as you connect to a computer without a cd) .
Get the installation cd from your friend and if he/she doesnt have one, take it to any nearby verizon office to have the software installed.
The UM175 is not an access point itself, you could plug it into a Craddlepoint and then connect your other devices to the Craddlepoint. Testing was down with a UM175 and a Craddlepoint here: http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/2421/64/
With the laptop facing towards you look at the right hand side of it, down the side of the latop just above the DVD/CD RW you will see a slot with a small button to the left of it. That is the PCMCIA slot. Push that button so it pops out and then push it back in again. That will push out the blanking plate. Pull out the blanking plate and then tyou can pop in the aircard. Make sure you don't put the card in upside down and also make sure you have the driver/software CD handy.
If you already programmed it, yea hit the reset hold it down for at least ten seconds. And sometimes its not your home's fault, sometimes your internet service provider has problems, it would be a coincidence but just to cover all the bases I would have them check your connection make sure its ok.

I just did mine... the IP for the router access was 192.168.1.1 but mine was a GS. the user name you leave blank and the password is admin. If the password does not work then hard reset by holding a pen in the the back of the router for a full minute to allow all the power to drain and memory to erase.
Once you have access to the router you can set it to anything want... I suggest you set the number of DHCP leases to be one more than you have computers for so that a guest with a wireless can access without have to set up another access and MAC Filter.
As far as the AIR card goes use a ethernet cable to connect directly to the router to make the changes. then once you are in the router you will set the exact IP and default gateway required by your device and games... you can set them and open ports too... just do not open anymore than you have to..
No because the Aircard PC5750 is a PCMCIA slot card, and your laptop has a Next Gen Express Card/ 54 Slot. The Express card slot is smaller than the PCMCIA slot. That makes the PC5750 incompatible.
