This is called the red ring of death, what I have researched try taking all the memory devices out (hard drive, any usbs, the expansion memory etc...) turn the Xbox on wait for it to boot up once booted turn it back off, make sure all connections for the memory devices are clean reconnect the memory devices to the Xbox and turn it on this should get rid of the RRod error 68.

SOURCE: Xbox will not turn on

The 360 was not properly tested before shipped to stores meaning it has alot of problems. It probably over heated(left on over night) which caused the dvd drive to overheat, frying the laser and or more. I suggest returning it to the store, or sell it on ebay and buy a used one. sorry I could help more, but as far as I know fixing this is risky and costly, I would have to say buy a new one or a different console. SOURCE: xbox 360 red ring

first of all, 3 red lights USUALLY means that you have an internal hardware error. microsoft has a garuntee that if your xbox DOES get the 3 red rings, you can send it in to them and get you xbox fixed or a totally brand new one for FREE. but before you do that, you should check ALL of the cords to make sure that they are plugged in right. there is a reported 33% of the Xbox 360 that were produced have a serious problem- once the motherboard reaches a certain temperature is bends, causing some solder balls to lose contact with the GPU and motherboard.
If there is anything that you want to be sure of before you take apart your XBOX 360 is assurance that what ever your going to do to it, is going to work!
just go to this website:
http://top3redlightfixes.com/XBOX3RedLights/xbox_360_3_red_lights.php?gclid=CIeBnJi1pJYCFQgRFQod0lsd7A

my friend used this site and got his xbox fixed in no time and he learned some suff too.

SOURCE: my xbox 360 has sound, but no video...no red

Hi byersjessica,

Sorry to hear about your xbox issues but their is some hope.

Xbox 360's have had numerous problems since the beginning.

All of the problems come from the motherboard or more specifically components on the motherboard that fail due to bad design.

One thing you can do to remedy the problem(atleast for a little while) is to heat your xbox 360 up.

When you heat the xbox360 it reflows the cracked brittle solder. Thus fixing the broken contact.

I have fixed many a xbox 360's with just a towel.

What you do is wrap the towel around the xbox in a way to cover up the exhaust ports. You don't want the hot air to escape your xbox.

So wrap your xbox with a towel securly(I use two towels) and then turn it on and wait about 5 minutes.

Turn your xbox360 off and let it cool for 10 minutes. Then turn it back on and play some games.

Their is a bad side to this. The more you do it the harder it is on the internals of your xbox. And overtime this fix will quit working.

Their are permanent fixes to your problem but they are quite involved. You would have to take your xbox apart remove the motherboard, remove the heatsink, reapply thermo grease, use different screws to secure the heatsink among other things.

If you want to go that route I would be more than happy to point to sites that have detailed info on this. Actually if you go to youtube and check around you can find great video's on how to do this.

Well I hope this helps and if it does please give me a "fixya rating" to help me out,

SOURCE: Xbox error e68, 1010

E68: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it, This can also be caused by a Hard Drive Eprom Error. Some also believe this might be caused by a problem with the fans. This error will normally require you to send the unit in for repair, due to the fact that, this is a basic internal connection breakdown.(cold solder break). The only know remedy to this issue, if you are not considering sending it in, is to locate all the solder breaks on the main board and hard drive connections bay,a nd re-solder all the bad connections you can find. Check the fans for there operational value as well.

XBOX 360 Error Codes

There are several error codes you can get with an XBOX 360, the first step to resolving any problem is finding the root cause. The fault codes are primarily shows on the "ring" on the front of your console (this is the ring split into 4 segments that shows when controllers are connected and what player position they are).

  • 1 SEGMENT FLASHING RED - Thisindicates a displayable error code, the specific error code will bebeing displayed on the TV you have it connected too.
  • 2 SEGMENTS FLASHING RED - The console has overheated.
  • 3 SEGMENTS FLASHING RED - This is the somewhat infamous RROD (Red Ring Of Death).
  • 4 SEGMENTS FLASHING RED - AV cable not detected.

If you have 1 segment flashing red indicating a displayable specific error code then you can identify the fault from the list below.

  • E45 - Update Error.
  • E64, E65, E66 - DVD Drive Error.
  • E67, E68, E69, E79 -Hard Drive Error.
  • E71 - Update Error.
  • E72 - Unknown.
  • E73 - General Hardware Error.
  • E74 -AV cable error.
  • E76 - Unknown.
This is a basic overview of all the fault codes for the XBOX 360, for more in depth information on the faults and how to repair them please see my other tips!

Thanks!

I was watching net flicks and my xbox rebooted and flashed a red ring (bottom right) and it said E68. i shut it off and started it up again and works<did that twice<the unit was alittle hot...

The e68 error on your Xbox 360 is caused by a hard drive/HDD problem. It can be caused by an internal connection error with the hard drive, a general failure of the hard drive, or overheating of the hard drive. Basically, there is quite a large range of things that can cause the Xbox 360 e68 problem, which can make troubleshooting the issue slightly difficult.

To fix the e68 code on your Xbox 360 is to remove the internal hard drive and try playing your console without it. If it then works, then you can be sure that you can permanently fix the problem. If not, then you will have more serious issues on your console that will need to be checked over by Microsoft, as the e68 is generally believed to be related only to your console's hard drive/HDD.

Hope this helps.

When I turned on my system, it had system error contact xbox customer support. There is a red light flashing on the bottom right, around the power button. I don't know what to do. Please help.

Some of us suddenly when we turn on our Xbox 360 console one day we got one red light flashes on the ROL (Ring of Light) around the Xbox 360 power button, and we got an Error message appearing on the TV screen "System error" also might occur with any error code like E66, E67, E68, E71, E74 or E77, all the same.
systemerrore74.jpg
When you get any of these messages appearing on your screen with one red light flashing on the ROL of your Xbox 360 console that's an indicator of a hardware problem with the console connection to one of the parts connected to it as the hard drive or cables.

oneredlight.jpg
So, first disconnect all power and AV cables from the back of your Xbox 360 console and also unplug the power cord from the wall socket, wait for a minute then reconnect them all back and try to turn on your Xbox 360 console once more.

If that doesn't work, it seems then to be a fault with your Xbox 360 hard drive so turn off the console again and remove the hard drive then turn on your Xbox 360 console without the hard drive, supposed then to work fine, it might be an intermittent issue and when you reconnect the hard drive your Xbox 360 will work fine all after, or it will just work fine without the hard drive so it will be then definitely a fault with your Xbox 360 hard drive so call Xbox 360 customer support to exchange the hard drive for you.

The Xbox 360 console might even keep giving you the same error code even after you remove the hard drive so it will then appear to be a fault with your Xbox 360 console not the hard drive & also in a case like this we need to contact Xbox 360 customer support to exchange the console.

I just got a 120gig external hard drive with a E68 message on it is it possibal to fix it?

Hi Keith, the E68 error is common and basically there are many causes: internal connection problem, overheating, HD general failure. You should try to disconnect the HD and see if your console works properly. If yes then it's luckily related only to the HD and not affecting your 360 :) If you get the same error also after HD removal, please advise me with few more details and we'll try to get rid of it. Now, as you just bought it, i'm assuming you have warranty so i'd bring it right back to the store and ask for a new one or a refund. Regards, Peter

X box360 flashing red light

Where is the flashing light? If it is at the 3rd position (bottom right) only, then the screen should say E68 error. If this is true, turn off the system, take off the harddrive, put the harddrive back on and turn the system back on. This happens to mine frequently. If its 3 of the lights, then you are out of luck my friend. Red Ring of Death...

What is E68 and how do i fix it? when i switched on my xbox 360 a red light appeared in the bottom left of the power switch and a system error appeared on the screen with E 68 what is this and how do...

The E68 error means that your hard drive is either broken or not connected propperly. Turn the xbox off and take out your hard drive and put it back in. When you put it back in make sure that you hear it click at the back of the xbox. then turn it on. if it still doesent work your hdd is ruined and youll have to get microsoft to fix it.

1 red ring E68

The single red light on the Xbox shows that there is a hardware failure.
The E68 error is linked to a problem with the Xbox 360 Hard drive. Try removing the hard drive from the Xbox and attempt to use the Xbox again.
If the error does not occur when the hard drive is not connected then you will need to replace the hard drive.
If the error still occurs then the console will need to be repaired.
