This is called the red ring of death, what I have researched try taking all the memory devices out (hard drive, any usbs, the expansion memory etc...) turn the Xbox on wait for it to boot up once booted turn it back off, make sure all connections for the memory devices are clean reconnect the memory devices to the Xbox and turn it on this should get rid of the RRod error 68.

The 360 was not properly tested before shipped to stores meaning it has alot of problems. It probably over heated(left on over night) which caused the dvd drive to overheat, frying the laser and or more. I suggest returning it to the store, or sell it on ebay and buy a used one. sorry I could help more, but as far as I know fixing this is risky and costly, I would have to say buy a new one or a different console. E68: Hard Drive Error Sorry to say you got a bad hard drive. Call MS or take the system back to walmart for a new 1 because I dont think they will give you a new hard drive. Who knows they might, call and ask!

first of all, 3 red lights USUALLY means that you have an internal hardware error. microsoft has a garuntee that if your xbox
DOES get the 3 red rings, you can send it in to them and get you xbox
fixed or a totally brand new one for FREE. but before you do that, you
should check ALL of the cords to make sure that they are plugged in
right. there is a reported 33% of the Xbox 360 that were produced have a serious problem- once the motherboard reaches a certain temperature is bends, causing some solder balls to lose contact with the GPU and motherboard.
If there is anything that you want to be sure of before you take apart your XBOX 360 is assurance that what ever your going to do to it, is going to work!
just go to this website:

Hi byersjessica,
Sorry to hear about your xbox issues but their is some hope.
Xbox 360's have had numerous problems since the beginning.
All of the problems come from the motherboard or more specifically components on the motherboard that fail due to bad design.
One thing you can do to remedy the problem(atleast for a little while) is to heat your xbox 360 up.
When you heat the xbox360 it reflows the cracked brittle solder. Thus fixing the broken contact.
I have fixed many a xbox 360's with just a towel.
What you do is wrap the towel around the xbox in a way to cover up the exhaust ports. You don't want the hot air to escape your xbox.
So wrap your xbox with a towel securly(I use two towels) and then turn it on and wait about 5 minutes.
Turn your xbox360 off and let it cool for 10 minutes. Then turn it back on and play some games.
Their is a bad side to this. The more you do it the harder it is on the internals of your xbox. And overtime this fix will quit working.
Their are permanent fixes to your problem but they are quite involved. You would have to take your xbox apart remove the motherboard, remove the heatsink, reapply thermo grease, use different screws to secure the heatsink among other things.
If you want to go that route I would be more than happy to point to sites that have detailed info on this. Actually if you go to youtube and check around you can find great video's on how to do this.
Well I hope this helps and if it does please give me a "fixya rating" to help me out,

E68: Hard Drive Error... It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it, This can also be caused by a Hard Drive Eprom Error. Some also believe this might be caused by a problem with the fans. This error will normally require you to send the unit in for repair, due to the fact that, this is a basic internal connection breakdown.(cold solder break). The only know remedy to this issue, if you are not considering sending it in, is to locate all the solder breaks on the main board and hard drive connections bay,a nd re-solder all the bad connections you can find. Check the fans for there operational value as well.
