Question about Dell M991 19" CRT Monitor

1 Answer

Dell Monitor My Dell Monitor seems to have quite working. There is a light on the front of the monitor that is usually green when all is working correctly but now it stays orange the entire time. I am wondering if it is time to buy a new monitor or if this is something I can fix. The monitor is about 4 years old and is on pretty much all the time

When I push the power button it goes to green and makes a noise like it's turning on, the light goes to green and then immediately another clicking noise and it goes to amber and a black screen.

My dell gx260 ligth come green if i turn it on but for a few mins time it turn orange why

Do you mean the monitor's power light starts green and then turns orange when you turn it on? Most monitors will go to a power saving mode when they do not get a signal from the computer.

The Dell GX260 has a green power light when on. When the computer is off, the light is off. If it is green and blinking, then the computer is in a power saving mode.

Diagnosis: start with the obvious: is the monitor cable plugged into both the computer and the monitor (if not permanently connected to the monitor)? Are you connected to the active port? (You can add a video graphics card in most desktops. The motherboard video port usually needs to be disabled to use the card ports. If you plug in the monitor cable to the disabled port, it won't work.) Is the monitor set to the correct input? (This applies if the monitor has several ports. In that case, there will be a Source or Input button on the monitor.) Is the computer on? The GX260 has the power button on the front. (Other computers have the power button on the top.) There is also the power supply switch on the back which needs to be on.

Next try a different data cable between the monitor and the computer (if you can). Try a different monitor. If a second monitor works, than the monitor has a damaged main board. If the second monitor doesn't work, then the video graphics adapter has probably failed. Replace the add-on card, if in use, then boot in the safe mode to remove the old graphics driver. Then install the correct driver for the graphics adapter.

Note: the computer and the monitor should both be off when you connect the cables. Then turn on the monitor first and set it to the correct source before turning on the computer.)

I hope this helps.

Dell228wfp on start up pwr on is green screen

Either the cable is not connected to the proper port or the display-source is not configured properly. Here's what you can try.
  • Ensure that you have connected the VGA/DVI cable in the correct port. If you have an extended graphics card in your computer, use a DVI cable(Digital input) else the VGA would be the only option available.
  • If the cable seems to be plugged at the right place, press the first button from the left on the front panel of your monitor (Button 1 shown in the front view: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/E228WFP/En/ug/about.htm#Front_View), once. This toggles the digital mode to analog mode of your monitor, and vice versa.
  • If the first two steps do not work, its not an issue with the monitor. It could be a failing cable or a defective video card, or the system itself is not completing the POST.

Abhishek

Dell E153FP monitor won't display any video from system (Dell GX260). My e173FP monitor works fine. E153FP powers up, runs Self Test Feature Test fine, menus all seem OK. Tried Factory Reset... still no...

You probably have tried this, but make sure monitor is set to correct display... i.e., Analog or Digital

Also, try starting in safe mode and verify Monitor is able to handle the display settings resolution

Monitor problems

It seems that you are trying to use a graphic mode that your monitor doesn't support.

Restart windows in safe mode, go to Control Panel. Click on Display. Select settings and change to a resolution that is supported by your monitor (I don't know your model, but 1024x768 is a safe bet).

Restart the computer.

It should be working by now.

Good luck!
