I recently tried to burn a movie on the roxy program. This time it's giving me an error message of...''it can not read it, it may be scratched, have a fingerprint, or dust''. I checked, it does not, and...i''ve prevoiusly burned this movie in the past. What could it be??

The blank dvd disk that you put in is bad, try a few more, first just put in a blank dvd before you start roxy. See if windows see's the disk,
usually windows will pop up a window and ask if you want to burn something to the disk, that means that windows see;s the disk,or it will be listed under my computer. If windows see's the disk and then you start roxy and roxy does not see the disk then there is a problem with roxy. Try this and post back if the problem is with roxy.

For the most part, out of every brand of dvd disk,in a pack of 25 disks, there will be about 5 coasters. That means there only good
for setting drinks on them.

I can't play movies on my IBM 2002 Laptop computer. The message 'can't open dvdsimple://D:' keeps coming up.

Hi there !

If you are playing DVD on DVDROM drive, I believe the DVD you are using is damaged because improper copying or burning it might cause damage to DVD. or it does not burn good at all. Or the DVD you are using from the beginning is damaged.

Another is if the DVD have too much scratches that it is difficult for the DVDROM drive to read it. It i will pop up an error reading the DVD.

If you are using windows media player (Not using DVD or CD), I believe the movie you are playing does not support the codec in the media palyer you are using. Try to download VLC player and it is free to download thru websearch.

I hope it solves your problem

How do you burn a movie file using roxio easy cd & dvd burning. i cannot get anything to work

ONE: This program installs a rootkit I believe, although it's a really great program otherwise, especially nice for beginners. Do you have a virus checker that kills rootkits? If so you may have to enable permission for that program to run in your virus checker. If you don't know how to do that, try step 2.

TWO:
Uninstall the program.
Turn off or unplug your modem to protect your computer from viruses.
Shut down your virus checker.
Install Roxio again and then try running it with your virus checking program still shut off.
Try burning a CD. Does it work fine?

THREE:
Turn your anti-virus program back on again.
If a message comes up asking if you want to give the program
full access,
limited access,
or block it, tell it you want to give it limited access. (That will allow it only access to safe operations. If you block it, your program won't work).

FOUR:
If it still won't burn, make sure you have a blank DVD or CD in the correct drive that the program wants to burn to, (or else change the drive it wants to burn to if you have more than one) and that it has no data, scratches or fingerprints on it.

Can not burn CD. Error message from Roxi assistant

Not sure, but a generic test is try using a different blank CD, preferably a different brand. Also try same CD same brand on different burner.

I have a HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4040N drive in stalled in an emachine Laptop, the drive will read data, cds music and dvd movies, but can not burn either cds or dvd...Depending on which program i use for...

well there could be a few things you can try
1) update the firmware and see if it works any better
2) try brand name DVD-R disks and CD-R disks
3) try an updated hack firmware such as these http://tdb.rpc1.org/#GWA4040N
4) try Nero Lite. it is free and it supports almost any drive. http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero9-free.php

I would not worry about the driver as they normmally would not need any.

Error message with software ?

That is usually caused by cheap media. Try a better brand of blank DVD's.

DVD-Rom will read the movie but won't write (burn) it. Bad block of memry

>> The Device has a bad block of memory, which Windows attempted to read.

Which CD/DVD disk are you trying to _read_ ?
Can you read this disk in a different computer ?
If not, then the disk is scratched or greasy or otherwise damaged.

Does the error occur when you try to start to _write_ ?
If so, the "blank" CD/DVD media may not be compatible with your hardware.
Find a "writable" disk from a different manufacturer, and try to write to it.
If that works, then you may need to do a "firmware-upgrade" on your CD/DVD-writer, to make it compatible with newer "blank" media disks.

Disc error "playback feature may not be available on this disc"

Hello arnita2211,

This error message is due to an improper format, that your dvd player can't handle. To correct this you need to use a program such as nero and in nero is a program called nero vision, that will recode the movie file into a dvd playable format.

You can download a trial of nero here
http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads-nero9-trial.php
You will have to purchase a license when the trial ends. Sorry we cannot give you a serial key for this as it is Illegal.

Thank you for trying Fixya!
