Question about Braun 8585 Electric Shaver

Open Question

My 8585 charges fine. I have had it for several years. motor starts, runs fast, won't kick down to shaving speed, will not cut properly, just started doing that. Need to know how or where to get it fixed. I am in Rocklin, Ca.

SOURCE: braun 8585 series

I found that the hole that the blade slots into had become worn and the blade was wobbling about too much under the foil. To solve it I wrap a small piece of masking tape around the metal shaft that slots into the hole and then push the blade back firmly into the slot. This seems to result in the blade pushing more firmly against the underside of the foil and giving a shave like new again.

SOURCE: Braun 8585 charger cleaner - not cleaning

you can try cleaning it with alchol and see if that helps it to become unplugged and able to clean your shaver again. It may also be some contacts that is on base where it contacts the shaver. If it still does not work, you will need to replace it . Look on ebay for one to replace with.

SOURCE: My 7540 shaver will only start when it is fully

Hi, yes these batteries only have a limited life unfortunately. To prolong the life of your battery, always ensure the batery is completely flat before charging and always charge fully but do not leave charger on after charge has completed.
Hope this helps

WHEN STARTING CAR WHILE MOTOR IS COLD IT STARTS WEAK. HAVE TO LET IT RUN AT LEAST 5 MINUTES OR IT WILL CUT OFF. AFTER MOTOR WARMS UP IT RUNS FINE AND NEVER CUTS OFF UNTIL YOU TURN IT OFF.

Depending on the year it could be your battery is starting to go bad or you're alternator isn't charging properly. It could also be something is being left on and drawing the battery down... But first how old is the battery. That's where I would start. You can take out to auto zone or pep boys and have them test it

Ac works fine when fan is on low but fan cuts off after a couple of minutes on high

Bad fan motor. Multi-speed motors have a set of windings for each speed. Your high speed is bad so the only solution is to replace the complete motor. When motors are going bad they will over heat and kick out on the heat safety. As it cools back down it will start again for a short time again until it gets hot again.

Blower start up problem

The motor is bad. It is overheating and shutting down on thermal overload. You need a new motor

I installed 3 new heads but the shaver just is not shaving off my 5 day old beard... It's battery seems fine as the motor seems to be running at normal speed. Confused Carl

Your Norelco shaver is not designed for cutting 5 days of growth. Your shaver is designed for cutting one, maybe two days of growth only. Use the trimmer on the back to cut the whiskers to a shorter stubble. Then the hairs will more effectively poke through the holes and slots in the combs allowing the blades to shave them as designed.

While shaving, I start into stubble and the sound (almost like the speed) ratchets up and doesn't seem to want to cut.It doesn't seem to want to get better until I approach very slowly with very light...

I would speculate that the oscillator on the swivel frame is broken making it difficult for the blade to move correctly. If tis is the case, you will need to replace it. You will find this part at shaveroutlet.com. See link below

Making a funny noise and not shaving well

8585 shaver gave higher tone and stopped cutting especially after a few days growth, even with new cutter and foil. Cutter wasn't pressing against the foil properly due to a bit of wear on the spring clip holding the cutter pin. Fixed with about 1cm of cigarette paper moistened and rolled into a 1-2mm ball. Stuffed that into cutter pin hole and rammed home with the cutter pin. Take the foil off and wiggle the cutter - if its feels loose, this might help, though the battery might just be getting old.

Turntable plays too fast

I have seen this problem before. Lift the turntable off. It might be held down with a clip around the center pole. Under it you will see a wheel that contacts the turn table and the center shaft of the motor. The motor shaft has 3 0r 4 elevations with different diameters. When you change the speed the wheel will move up and down to different diameter levels on the motor shaft. It must be free to move. It might need some oil at the moving parts as I suspect it is not moving properly.
Hope this helps.
