Question about Acer Aspire 5100-5022 Notebook
My brother gave me his Acer Aspire 5512WLMi few weeks ago, I check the notebook specs., it fits to min. requirement for my online games. I reformatted the notebook just to be sure that I'm free for any viruses and maleware and it's runs very good. I launch the game, and it runs smoothly I can even chat with co-players or even PK, just like im playing with my desktop PC but suddenly it shuts down (just like the power cord has been pulled out in your desktop)the time I turn it on, it only runs disk check then no error have been reported.I launch the game again and still shuts down, interval time of shuts down was not consistent, the longest it reach almost an hour but the shortest is seconds only. My brother told me that he also experience this problem sometimes when he launch a lot of applications at the same time and after a few days it's shuts down. I read some tips on other forum they are more focus on overheating causes of fan problem or clogged heatsink with dust. I check my notebook but everything is ok and clean, both heatsink and fan. Just to be sure I already flushed it out using compressed air but seems nothing change. Hint: I notice something before it's shuts down I can hear the processor fan spins very fast then power out. Does this notebook can't handle the game? If it's overheating problem, how can I evaluate it? I almost apply all the things I knew about PC trouble shooting and still can't find the perfect solution. Hope you can assist me. TY
A notebook can only shut down if the processor is getting HOT that is by itself. I can timagine its a virus because you said you formatted it?. You keep maintaining that it keepsshutting down. to me thats the CPU because its getting too HOT> How to fix is to check to see if the fan is ok the one on top. Even when it glogs up the fan can always clear it ......may be a faulty fan check it...

yo all good
IN all logics that adapter has to be your downfall BUT you would have to make that call.
In all probability I would stake the blame at that adapter. You must have an inkling about that adapter to render it at fault.....before you go off to buy a new one why not ask around to borrow someone elses just to prove your point. The way you have described! clearly says its the adapter but what if we are wrong?
It is obvious that something or rather is drawing the power source out of the laptop, yet its that same source that revitalizes it.......not logical.....Im sorry pal I cannot help any further!
That is the one you be sure to let me know how it fairs..........You know the other day I thought I solved a problem with a chappy in the States who couldnt figure out why his darn TV was strangely changing the channels by itself....I told him perhaps the neighbour had the same set and the same remote and THEY were, changing the channels. He was frustrated that he replied thank you Mr Paeroa for a thoughtful solution BUT "he said" I got that mad with that TV I attacked it with a hammer smashing it all into pieces......he said!!! best day of his life....and went out and bought a new one. Can you imagine!!!
Well done and thank you for dropping by to mention your success I wish others we have tried to help did the same thanks again.

Yes i reformatted it using the recovery CD of the notebook, then I only install Mcafee internet security suite 2007 and my online game... I'll try to check again processor and VC fan when I got home. I'll get back to you... TY
Hi Paeroa,
Sorry for the late response, I'll check the my notebook last night and everything is ok both VC and processor fan there's no abnormalities.
I discover something that may cause my notebook to shutdown. I run my laptop last night with out using my AC adapter, while were checking the status of the fans we notice that were already running the game for 30mins with out experiencing any shutdown. Then I connect the AC adapter since my battery is running out, after a minute it shuts down. So I conduct a test...
With AC adapter
Settings Status
80%CPU,70% LCD Brightness Shut down
100%CPU,100% LCD Brightness Shut down
With Out adapter, on battery
80%CPU,70% LCD Brightness OK
100%CPU,100% LCD Brightness OK
Do you think the adapter cause the problem? If it is what's the reason behind? I need to have a 2nd opinion from you guys before I'll buy my new adapter. TY
Thanks for the help and point of view Paeroa, I'll try to borrow an adapter that has same specification or with higher ampere rating. I'll just hope it's the one causing all the problem... Gud Day...
Hi Paeroa, just drop by to fixya then I saw my old post here. Anyway I already solved the problem of my notebook a month ago, I just want to share what I did and additional information here for everyone.Yah! your right from your old post that it is not the AC charger causing the power shutdown, I try the AC charger of my friend but same situation.
Solution: I trace what other configuration uses different settings when connected to AC charger vs battery. The root cause but not the "main cause" is my VC, my notebook is loaded with X700 ATI radeon 128MB and everytime it was connected to AC charger my VC default setting is in optimal performace compare to battery at balance setting. So I change the setting to balance when connected in AC charger and everything goes fine. The main cause of shutdown as "I understand" based on the blog, forum and article I read is still overheating, the VC loaded a lot of graphics memory which lead to processor to used 100% of its capabilty in a minimum span of time, which the CPU fan can't compensate the accumation of heat until it reach the shutsdown temperature.
Hope this info will help everyone here, I love the way this forum built to help other people and sharing of knowledge... More power to you all...
