You have a lean fuel condition. Your carb is slightly clogged. By choking the unit you are manually changing the air/fuel ratio to richen up the mix. Your carb needs to be removed and cleaned. Hope this info helped.

What's the best choke setting for starting a cold generator

Full choke to start, open choke partially immediately the engine starts to where the motor runs smoothly, continue opening as soon as you can while keeping the engine running smoothly. Be sure to open fully before leaving the unit, running it with the choke partially on can cause a rich fuel condition which tends to wash the oil off the cylinder walls and it also dilutes the oil with gasoline.

Generator will not run unless i use starting fluid.

You have a fuel problem. Fuel filter clogged? Carbuerator may need cleaning. Is there a hidden fuel shutoff valve? I have left mine closed... it is embarassing but it happens. I assume you put the choke on initially...

I have no manual for my Powermate Generator and it has never been started. Any advice on type of oil, start up procedure, and maybe more important shutting it down?

1- oil type: when you buy it...tell them u want small generator oil...its all the same.
2- start up:turn the red button (on and off button) on(usually UP).
then i prefer choking the engine.
(make sure the feul knob is open)
then pull the string ...and when it starts runnin undo the choking immediaetly.
3- shut down:simply turn the red button off (usually DOWN)..it might keeps shaking...if so...then choke it again.

i hope i helped...send me an email for more details

Coleman 6250 generator runs rough

Fresh fuel? Does carburetor have adjustable jets? Turn the high speed jet (at bottom of float bowl) about 1/4 to1/2 CCW (looking at bottom of bowl). If no improvement, carburetor should be torn apart and cleaned. This also applies if there are no adjustable jets. Is there a fuel filter anywhere?

Where is carburator on Coleman portable generator «powermate 3750

if it has been submerged in water you wil not be able to start it, once water gets in it will corode the piston and rings and will never work good again,, but the carb is behind the little filter on the side next to the fuel line,, take off the filter and it will just be a little hole with a butter fly flap for the choke and a needle inside of it the needle is where the gas comes in and that adjust the fuel air mix,, csn you run an extension cord to the pump?

Coleman Powermate 6250 generator only runs with Choke on? pull

Cbronson
how old was the fuel in the tank and carb bowl? This could have built up varnish and make the float heavier
Another issue that my customers bring in are 4 stroke generators that have 2 stroke fuel put in tank.
