Sorry but they are right....it needs to be serviced...i understand it was a gift, but who ever gave it to you, would want to make sure you had a working unit...receipts are easily obtainable if brought on line...as well as best buy...they have duplicate receipts, just for this reason

sorry about that...I would like to think that who ever gave it to you would want to make sure that if it was defective that you could get it repaired...The GO 920 is about 200-300 bucks....really try to get a hold of it....if it was from best buy, radio shack, sams club, a duplicate can be offered.....Really try to find it.....if it is under a year old, then it can be sent in.......( this policy is very well enforced....a receipt is needed)

I assume you are talking about not getting a gps signal. If this is the case follow this thread and read what demonfatel says.

Why does my tom tom not start up when i turn it on

First, check and make sure your battery is fully charged. Then try to do a "Reset" .... by pressing and holding down the ON/OFF button for 5 seconds (or a lot more) until the device powers on again. Yes, at times, it may take a minute or more ! of holding that button down.

Can't get a GPS signal for last 24 hrs

I had a similar problem and did solve it with the soft reset (pressing reset button). I have a One XL and there is a small reset button that you push with a paper clip. On the XL 330 you press and hold the on/off button for 15 seconds and the unit should reset.

My symptoms: Would not find a GPS signal. When I looked at the GPS Satellite status (press on the GPS signal strength bars, again on the GPS/battery status) you can see it locking on up to 8 satellites but would still not show a gps signal lock. Normally it only takes 4 satellites to get a gps lock. My other sympton was that when I attached the GPS unit to the computer and operated it with TomTom Home, it worked fine and locked on to the gps signal quickly (even inside my home). But it would never (at least for 30 minute trips) lock on to a gps signal. After doing a reset it began working normally and locked on to a gps signal after finding 4 or more satellite signals.

My tom tom won't turn on. While charging it, the green light goes on, but pressing the power button does nothing. It's just dead. Is there a solution?

I had the same problem with the go 920, I thought it was broken,
Solution was to insert pin into reset hole for 15 Sec, after which hold the power on button for at least 5 Secs

Device not recognized by computer

Lots of folks having this problem with many different TomTom Models, mine was with a GO630.

Do a "reset" on the unit, use a paperclip or somesuch and hold the reset button on your TomTom in for about 5 seconds, and the unit will rrset and will be recognized by your computer.

TomTom 920 GPS Antenna is not working (the black/orange indicator does not rotate)

After two attempts and no real solution do you think it is wise to go for a third time around? You should be insisting an an exchange since you have paid twice for a repair and they did not fix it! Get real!

Reset mt 920

Hi..

First of all, do a FULL backup with win explorer or similar asap. Oh, did i mention backup? Do it NOW!
Done? Sure...? Great, then you can carry on.... :-)

- It seems you want to do a reset ?:
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&query=reset&FID=6965

- You can also do a hard reset, but don't see why you should need to, but anyway, here's how to:
  1. Hold reset button pressed for approx 15 sec
  2. Press power button while pressing reset button
  3. Release reset button while still pressing power button
  4. Device should start, hold power button pressed until you see white text on screen, last line should read "RTC..."
  5. Release power button
Hope this helps you to achive you goals...
