Toshiba RD-XS34 Whenever I press a button on my remote I get a DR -2 popping up on the unit's display. Can anyone help? I have also tried the firmware update & still the same. Thanks!

    mine is rd-85dtsb same prob want DR-1 NOT dr-2


    how do i change it back ? [no remote operation on dr-2 ]

    I changed one parameter and I receive the message DR 2. Nothing seems to work anymore. Did other people, who faced this problem, find a solution ?

    machine displays DR-3 when buttons are pushed on the remote control

Hold down the easy-navi button and number 1 on the remote.

Press the HDD and DVD bottons on the player at the same time it will then show DR2 when remote is pressed. Press mode key and the number 2 key on remote, this should now work

My Toshiba SE-R0161 Remote no longer works.
There is most likely nothing wrong with your remote. I just had exactly the same issue with my SE-R0161 remote. (I had just changed my remote batteries too and was getting a DR-2 code on the Toshiba DVR RD-XS52 unit's display.) My DVR and my remote had to be realigned so that they both have the same infared (IR) code. The remote and the DVR can have DR 1, DR 2 or DR 3 as remote codes. Pg 54 of the Toshiba Installation Manual explains how to align both your SE-R0161 and your based unit so that the remote works again. Good luck. Hope this helps.

ok you need to press STAR Button which says mode above it and either 1,2 or 3 to find which freqency is being use. The dvd and the remote need to be on the smae on.

Toshiba Hdd/Dvd video recorder. Moved unit to a static caravan,comes on ok but when using the remote to use it ,no matter what button I press I get the message 1. DR-OFF Can you please help ?
Hold both the channel up and down buttons on the front of the recorder for 3 secs until DR1 shows in the display. Try it and let me know if it worked..

HDD Corrupt
I have the XS35 and the HDD drive is curropt. Can I do the following?

1. Download the Toshiba firmware update:
http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/customersupport/model_firmware.asp?model=rd-xs34

2. Burn the ISO to a CD-R disc. ImgBurn is an excellent free burner for this.

3. Insert the CD in your unit. It will auto-install the firmware. Follow onscreen instructions. Takes about 10 minutes total.

After the update, my existing HDD shows are playable again, and I can record and playback from the HDD. I bet it would be a good idea to periodically backup your shows on DVDs, and regularly reformat the HDD.

Firmware update failed RD-XS34Su
If it was a toshiba supplied disk, then I should follow up with them with the failure, as it was their fix, that caused this problem, they should replace/repair this unit for you

Remote control problems
Answering my own question,Switch on recorder manually then hold down SETUP KEY and No 2 key at the same time.As this is a common fault with this recorder would advise taking note of this solution.

My remote is not being received by the unit. Unit works fine, and remote is emitting IR. Tried syncing remote but nothing, and cant use the unit without the remote. Remote is working but main dvd recorder unit is not responding to remote, Remote emits IR okay, but don't know if it has somehow become out of sync overnight (doubtful)or if the sensor on the dvd recorder may have just stopped working?. I tried holding down setup button and 1,2, and 3 also the easy nav button etc. Unit is now 8 years old so maybe the sensor has just gone? would appreciate some ideas, thanks in advance.
