It's pretty simple when you know how. Yeh, it's a very cheap Grinder to replace (£30) but when you can buy a pair of burr plates at £8 which includes p&p, it's worth the 40 minute fix, even if for curiosity and satisfaction!
some grinders had gotten lodged in the smaller crack between the grinder cover and the case, preventing it from settling in . cleaned with small knife, wallah!
I have the same issue. You need to take both dials off, then on the bottom, there are 4 tabs on the inside. Seperate the halves and you will see them. Towards the front and halfway back. Pry the halves apart enough to push the top towards the bottom and it slides apart pretty easy. The tricky part now is finding the replacement part. I have super glued my switch and I want to do something to try and repair it further. Maybe epoxy. I called Krups and they can't sell the part to me. I called one of their service centers and they can't sell the part to me. So, if someone knows where to get the part, I am all ears :)
The GVX2 has two micro switches. one on the top hopper (in the groove on right hand side) and the other in the space the coffee holder (collector) fits into.
The coffee collector micro switch is activated by the lid of the collector.
You have to listen for a small "click" as you place the hopper on and again as you insert the coffee collector.
The Krups Burr Grinder GVX2 featured in the picture is not a coffee maker, per se, it only grind coffee beans to use in other coffee makers. It is a lousy machine, and I would recommend returning it or not buying it. DO NOT PUT WATER INTO THIS MACHINE. It will cause electric shock.
I know that this machine is sensitive with the lids needing to be securely fastened (both the top and the plastic catch bottom container) maybe that is it.
Mine had a piece of the top/bean lid broken off and lodged in the groove preventing the lid from going down far enough to release the safety switch which is on the right (as you look at the front) in the bottom of the groove. Note that there is another safety switch in the body of the grinder above where the ground coffee comes out that must be working as well.
