These dual cassette decks were throw away units in most cases. The belt inside and the grease in the cam mechanism is in bad shape and the deck can not cycle through the steps it need to so as to reach stop. Only stop mode will allow the door block to release. The tape can safely be extracted by a Technician. The deck need work. Dual cassette decks are not always worn the repair cost.
Hi what has happened is when you pressed play the tape head that reads the tape has come up as normal this locks the door as you cant open it when its playing but instead of the tape head releasing and going back down into start possition it has become jammed in the tape itself. You have two options turn off at mains and give it a gentle bang a couple of times this might free the tape and let the head go back to start possition its upto you how hard you tap it but doing this usually works and will allow you to get the tape out failing this then its going to be a case of stripping it down till you can get access to the tape head and be able to free it from the tape allowing door to open let me know how you get on ok and if you need further assistance
The mechanism transport need work to allow the unit to get back to the stop/Eject cam position. Without that the deck is not going to work. This is usually but not always due to a small rubber belt. That is not all that is needed but the primary reason for that failure.
If you remove the cover after unplugging the AC, you will see that when you push the eject button that on the back side the putton is held back by a white plastic piece. Push down the white plastic piece as you press the eject button. The door will open and the tape will release. I jsut did this today on my Sony TC WR 670 dual tape player. Both sides were blocked. I noticed that both fuses on the board were also blown. New fuses didn't solve the problem. May be that the transformer is out?
there is a mechanical problem in your tape deck. probably a losen rubber band. it clicks because the rubber is too lose to move the mechinal parts. so when you power off, it losen the whole machanical parts..it is very easy to replace..opend the deck and check it out..good luck
