Hello all.
I do build, repair and upgrade computers. Not like in the old days now. No more soldering cpu's and other componets anymore. : ) When I bought this tv, I already knew about the convergence problems some have. Been lucky for the last 5 going on 6 years with mine. I replaced my convergence IC's when last month, my tv would sometimes just shut down. It would come back on after it cooled off. Now it will only play sound with no picture. After about 2 minutes, there is a click sound and the sound goes off and the power led starts to blink slowly. Press the power on button again and the power led starts to blink rapidly.
Figure maybe a fuse(s) went with the convergence IC's? I have no clue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have no manual for values for the works of this tv.
Thanks
Sam
Hey SrTech. Again, thanks for your input. I do think you meant transfomer? No short there at the horizonal O/P transfomer. I did find a couple of bad looking solder joints and redid them. Haven't done any other trouble shooting yet, but now the set comes on with sound ( still no picture ) and stays on! No more blinking led. Guess the fail safe system was working well. Now to figure why the crt's are not kicking in!

Also check the horizontal o/p transistor for short if ok ,look on the deflection board and see if there are any b+ voltage markings and test with meter for b+.

You cannot upgrade the CPU in a Sony laptop. It's soldered to the motherboard with over 200 pins you'd have to desolder and then re-solder to install the new CPU. But the main problem is that the motherboard is wired for the current CPU only.
It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors
will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called
capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are
good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work
fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and -
connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the
same way. If you can't do the repair we offer a repair service, contact us for more details.
I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Does it shut off with absolutely no warning sounds whatsoever?
Do you ever hear a faint PC beeper alarm that kinda sounds like a ambulance siren (you know... kinda like a WEEEE. ORRRRR... WEEEE... ORRRR)
My main suspect at this stage is OVERTEMP (you are overheating the CPU).
Possible Causes: Recently UPGRADED components (especially VIDEO)
Build up of dust in Case and CPU heatsink and GPU heatsink or CPU fan has failed or one or some case fans have failed.
Do you know how to check your CPU temp in BIOS? If it happens again check it out.... greater than 90 degrees is usually bad.
Check all your fans are spinning, check you don't have 'caked up' dust on your heatsinks.
If you have recently upgraded a major component that is dumping heat into you case... investigate a new case fan to extract this heat (cheapest option) or you may want to pick up an aftermarket CPU heatsink and fan (Thermalright FTW!!!!!!!)
what are your pc specs , like ram ect. So we can find out what is wrong. please check your cpu settings and reset the pc bios to see if that hasnt solved the problem
how old is this unit look on thr rear panel for mfg. date, possoble clod solder connections in deflection circuit and power supply if unit is more than 3yrs old.
Thanks Srtech.
Will check and get back.
