Blank Screens Got V3 with broken flex cable at hinge. Replaced keypad with new flex cable. Screens lit up and worked for about 10 minutes, then went black. Came on briefly at next startup, but then black since. All other functions seem to be o.k. Buttons on flip work, can call out, receive calls. Can access memory via Phone Tools.

Yes this is the most common problem with the RAZR.
There is a small cable connecting the screen to the keypad part of the phone. This cable is called a flex cable and fits through the hinge of your RAZR so that the screen and keypad are connected even as the phone opens and closes on the hinge.
BUT, this cable often wears out or can even be severed even a slight bit, and the phone would then work, but only the bottom half, the screen would be dead. I fix this issue for people more than any other cell problem. You need to have the flex cable replaced.
The LCD flex connector is very sensitive. 4/5 of the RAZR screens I see go out are due to a loose flex connection. It's super easy to fix it. Take off the battery door. There are two T6 screws. Take them out and pop off the bottom of the phone. There are two flex cables: one for the keypad, the other for the screen. Connect the flat cable (screen cable) first. Then connect the bent (keypad) cable. Put back together. Voila.
There are small screws on the silver end pieces that hold the 2 pieces together. You have to completely take the phone apart top and bottom take the end piece out of the hinge and very carefully slide the flex cable through. Go to HowardForums and look for a tutorial there.
hi
The Phone needs a new Keypad flex and most likely a left hinge pin. When the phone is open, the cable runs through the left side of the hinge. It is very common for the hinge pin to become chipped and put a small cut in the Flex Cable.
You can get the parts on ebay. search for motorola v3 keypad flex, and motorola v3 hinge, or knuckle.
If the phone still works, check to see if the left side of the hinge (when the phone is open and facing you) is loose. If you can wiggle the top 1/2 of the phone, the hinge is damaged, therefore damaging the flex cable that runs through it. If that is the case, replace the hinge assembly and the flex and you're good.
You can buy a new phone.....but I had the same exact problem with my motorola v3 phone. Every now and then both screens would work for a while and then turn completely black or sometimes white. Most of the time black. The keypads would light, I could make and receive phone calls, but I couldn't see anything on either screen. I moved all my contacts to the sim card and I got a new phone thru an upgrade with my company. But I was still determined to get the V3 to work again! I brought the phone to a few cell phone repairs shops and I was told that the connectors from the flex cable inside the phone sometimes get loose. Make sure they are tightly plugged in. If that doesn't help then the flex cable needs to be replaced. Some of these repair shops wanted up to $65.00 to replace the flex cable! I could replace the phone for much less than $65.00! So I decided to go to ebay and type in Motorola V3 Flex cable......hundreds of places came up that sell this flex cable. I found a place in my area and ordered one. It cost me $5.00 and I got it within 2 days! I looked online on how to install the flex cable and everything from how to disassemble the phone to installing the new flex cable and reassembling the phone was right there! I followed the instructions and I installed the new flex cable and the phone is as good as new!!! Both screens are working and I didn't loose any pictures or contacts from the phone!
All it cost me was $5.00 and about an hour of time! It even came with free shipping! Go to google and type in Motorola v3 black screen and look thru the solutions. Some of them will explain how to disassembe the phone and replace the flex cable with detailed pictures! You can buy the torque screw drivers at Home Depot or on ebay! Good Luck!
Either your flex cable is broken or came loose. Is the top left hinge button still intact? Is it loose at the hinge? You will need a Torx 4 screwdriver to take the LCD screen apart to check the flex cable inside.
Yup I agree.. I have the same issue going on with my Hubbys phone right this minute.. I have a Flex cable on the way for it.. Just the Keypad is lit on mine.. But the Flex Cable is the one cable that controls the LCD the side buttons and the key pad and yes its the cable you see running in back if you take the battery out.
hi,
Check if the external display working fine,
also try to unfold slowly and see if anything comes to the display, coz this is normally the problem with display change over switch.
all the best
