go to my computer and RIGHT ClICK on it , then choose propertys. Go to hardware then choose Device Manager.Under DVD CD rom drives open the "+" in the box and then right click on your name, "update driver" should appear.
Try this first, if it cannot find a recent driver then write down the manufacture and version of the driver. go to there website and see if they have one.

i don't think it's a firmware update. if it's out of warranty, open the device and clean the leans. clean them with something smooth. after that put all together and pray it will work. if not you'll have to buy a new one
I suggest you try a better program. It is possible there is something wrong with your drive, but this sounds more like a silly software problem. If you are SURE you have a drive capable of burning, then try this free program. I have a blu ray player, it stopped working with most bluray discs. Found that I needed to update the firmware, but my Windows software couldn't burn an .iso disc. This software can do anything you need. http://cdburnerxp.se/download.php
It is free and works beautifully. I was able to download the program, burn an .iso disc and update my bluray player in minutes.
are you using a single IDE cable with your H/Disk? if yes! check, the jumper connections of your CD-ROM,maybe the are both in the master position ,change the jumper of your CD_ROM to slave position.or use another cable for your CD-ROM.if doe'snt work go to BIOS SETUP,set the settings to default SETUP.then restart your PC.
