Question about Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Printer won't print full job

The printer only prints half a page, or one page out of a 3-page print job. The green ready light blinks, and when the go button is pressed, another half-page will print. It seems like the memory is overloaded -- but these are very simple text docs. I am using Mac OSX and printing through an airport.

I have the same thing... seems to be since I upgraded to an airport square.  The printer will print two pages or more if the only thing on the page is one word or so, but when I print a multiple page document that has lots of text it prints the first page, green light starts blinking on the printer and second page... stays in the printer.  Press the green light and the second page comes out, but only top few lines.  Seems almost like a memory issue...8 MB memory, not upgradable...must be a software issue since it worked with my previous wireless network, and also works with my Dell laptop.

I wondered if it's because it needs a new drum. Is your drum light blinking?

If I am not printing continuously, the printer does not print the first 5-6 printing jobs. When print job sent to the printer I get a blank page (printing job can be more than one page). After the blank...

Hi there,
It seems that " Print on both sides (Manually)" is selected in printing options., when you want to print any document Go to file Print > select printer and click properties and disable the Manual printing option in device settings.
You should be able to get printing without errors,
if the option is not checked then check for the default paper tray,
save the settings and reboot your laptop/desktop and restart printer as well so that settings should work properly and any given command gets clear from memory, If these all settings are ok, Uninstall the printer driver and download the latest version drivers from HP website and install see links below

Downloaded driver from HP. connected printer via

HP Support says “If the Ready light is blinking, and the Go light is on, it indicates Data in the printer memory is waiting to be printed. Pressing the GO button prints from Tray 1 or from another tray if Tray 1 is empty and the paper size is supported in the other Tray. Pressing the JOB CANCEL button cancels the current job and the printer returns to ready.
Make sure the paper size is correctly defined.

Keeps blinking. I've shut it off, and cancelled all print jobs - even unplugged it. Keeps blinking. Says there is an operator error

Try this:

1. Turn off printer (use button, don't unplug)
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.

If this not help may the print head is defective.

One of my members has an HP Deskjet 3650 and it

See this article to resolve the blinking lights. Then see this article and possibly this one to clear the print queue. You may have to cancel an active print job to remove it, or reboot the computer. Here is the home support page for that model printer, should anyone have further questions or need more information.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

The exclamation sign flashes and then the green light but no printing

The service Manual says that if both the ready (Bulb) light and the exclamation light are both on it is a invalid engine
code /Invalid network code. But to clarify that you say they are both on and solid and not blinking. If they are you have a bad main board.
If they are blinking then the error is a Flushing /Resolution reduced error.
The cause is:
Printer is processing data or printing pages, but the resolution of a page in the current print job is reduced from 600 dots per inch (dpi) to 300 dpi to prevent a memory full error.
Solution is:
Wait until the ready light is displayed to print other jobs.
• Press and release the triangle button to cancel print job. It is the lower of the two buttons.
• Press and hold the traiangle button again to reset printer.
Hope this helps

I have an hp Laserjet 1012 printer and find that I do not possess any instructions for trouble shooting. My problem is that the printer persists in reprinting the same job given it several days ago and I...

Here is a link to the LJ1012. There are links for manuals, drivers, support forums, etc.

LaserJet 1012 Support

As to your question, here are the brief descriptions of the 2 lights and 2 buttons...from top to bottom:

1 Attention light: Indicates printer media input tray is empty, print cartridge door is open, print
cartridge is missing, or other errors.
2 Ready light: Indicates that the printer is ready to print.
3 Go button and light: To print a demo page or to continue printing while in manual feed mode,
press and release the Go button. To print a configuration page, press and hold the Go button
for 5 seconds.
4 Cancel Job button: When the printer is processing data, press the Cancel Job button to
cancel the print job.

Also, see if powering down the printer and unplugging it from the wall outlet for several minutes clears the repeating of the print job.
