Are you seeing a cleaning light or is it just ejecting the tapes? If it is ejecting them then make sure to try a brand new tape of the right type (if it is the wrong tape type it will eject).
Also try a cleaning tape if the cleaning light is on.
If that does not work then you will need to send in the tape drive somewhere for repair as the head might be worn out or the drive needs a good service.
Try going to http://tape-drive-repair.com who sell and repair these units. The LTO2 and LTO3 drives are pretty inexpensive now and so this should be fairly cheap to have sorted.
Also this unit is the same as the Quantum superloader3 so that might help if you are still googling for a solution

Please check your firmware on the tape drive. Update with X-Talk software that can be downloaded from www.quantum.com.

Proximity detector off failed

Hello!

I had the same problem with our Storagetek L40 library and had to get another robotic hand from a company named Instock Inc.
It was an easy fix. I just had to power off the L40 library, take off the old hand and put the new hand on, then turned the L40 library back on, and it worked great after that.
In the hand is a sensor that goes bad after time.

You should be able to find them on the web at instockinc.com I believe, and they should have the hand you would need.

Yes, you can open the CAP. I believe the menu has a function for that, like Select to Open CAP.

StorageTek L20 SCSI ID issues?

Did it ever work for you?

You don't have to assign the scsi id's on the drives. The L20 does that for you according to whatever you set in the drive config menu.

When you say the system 'forgets' the id's does that mean it saw them initially? Does it lose any particular one or all of them? What's the physical configuration - that is, what devices are on which scsi busses and what are their ID's? Any daisy chaining?

Is there a router in the mix somewhere?

My Storegtek L80 can't recognize all of its tape drives

That thing required a SCSI terminator pack doesn't it.

If so, is it working properly.

I've had those things go out on me before leaving me to pull my hair out many times.

Sn 3250 router problem

Ok, I'm confused... are you sure this isn't router that you're mentioning isn't a SAN Switch? A StorageTek/Brocade 3250 switch... and this is a StorageTek Scalar 100 Tape Library with Fibre aware LTO Drives. The Library Users Manual can be found at http://downloads.quantum.com/scalar/S100/omS100UsersGuide.pdf. Switch information can be found at http://www.storagetek.com/products/product_page2304.html. I'm not a Sun guy, so I would suggest that you contact them to find out which versions of firmware for the switch that they have certified. With HP, there are certain versions of firmware that they certify with HPUX... and specific versions of HBA drivers that work better with HPUX as well. If it is, in fact a Brocade 3250, I would suggest that you start with a "switchshow"... figure out which port drive 4 attaches to... do a "porterrshow #" (# represents the port found) to see the port error statistics... you want to check the loss of signal and link failure count. I would do an "sfpshow #" to see the status of the transciever as well. Let us know.
