HARMAN FL8385 CD CHANGER TRAY ALIGNMENT

We've all done it, or one of our youngsters do it for us... knock the multi disc tray out of sync with the drive gears.

With multi disc trays, the CD drive has to move out of the way during disc change and tray loading. Occasionally a disc jams, someone forces the tray movement, and you hear the GRIND, GRIND, GRIND of slipping gears.

Most designs have a switch-hit gear setup that's self correcting for small adjustments but occasionally the mechanism slips beyond self correcting.

Here's the process to open up and fix the tray alignment for Harman's FL8385 CD Changer.

C.d.s get stuck and now tray wont close

The problem is in the loading bay, sometimes 2 CD's will get jammed locking up the system, or the timing gear is out of sync, or possible broken gears.

CD tray won't open or close on onkyo dx-c606 cd changer.

Yes! it sounds very likely that a small loading belt has stretched, or the loading motor is not working, this is not an easy repair because the gears are timed and synced to work together, if the unit has a loading belt pull tray all the way out and look in the empty tray, may be visable! if you can remove it without taking it apart all the better, have a Tv repair shop size up the belt for replacement.

I have a CDX-602 CD Player. I was on a gig the other night I placed a cd in the tray. I pressed the button to close the tray and a cord was wedged so that the tray would not close. Naturally the tray...

The gears have probably come out of sync, meaning the tray is riding on the limit switch. You need to remove the deck, dismantle and re-sync the drawer mech. Check the limit switch isnt bent, it's quite flimsy

Alpine CHM-S620 CD Changer Magazine

if you open the cage on the unit, you can pop the tray back out of the mechanism by VERY GENTLY turning the load gear on the carriage, be sure to not slip any gears on the drive or the changer will be out of sync and will be garbage unless you have it serviced by an Alpine service center. you are best to turn the 1st. gear beyond the carriage motor, or you can apply power to the motor (which I don't advise) to let the motor eject the tray. if you do choose the power method, be 100% sure of the polarity first otherwise you will damage the carriage and drive gears. the motor has a brass gear and the rest are nylon gears, the brass gear will very easily shred a nylon gear. want to be extra careful? manually turn the load motor gear itself, it will take alot longer to do, but will be the safest. I've been inside these machines quite a bit, hope I was able to help.
