Hi folks, I've been a proud Bravia owner for about 15 months now. It's
a KDL-40s3000, and I've hit a bit of a problem with it.
Recently upgraded from Sky digital to Sky+HD, which provides a HD
picture over a hdmi cable to the TV. All HD shows aired by Sky are
displayed in widescreen and look good, although I'm not certain I'm
seeing the whole image. Non-HD shows are aired in channel/show specific
aspect ratios, the TV doesnt auto-format, and I seem to be unable to
manually adjust that. The result is a skewed image.
Is it that the Bravia doesnt support other formats through it's hdmi
port? (In fact there are 2 hdmi ports on the TV and I run my PC through
the other at 1280x768 res without problems)
I've checked the sky manual, there seems to be very little applicable info in it.
Has anyone else seen similar problems? Any advice appreciated, thanks.
There is nothing wrong with you Sony Bravia TV and it suppport all HD and SD formats.
Are you viewing the HD version of the channel when it is showing a standard defination show. e.g SKY1 HD instead of SKY1.
This means that regular standard defination shows are in a 4:3 ratio and does not fill the whole screen. In order to view these type of shows you will need to tune to regular channel instead of the HD version.
You can check if a show is brocast in HD by going into the tv guide and checking for the HD symbol in the programme symposis.
Example
038
533
679
505
533 038 039 064 102 130 505
Ok.
