Bravia & Sky+HD, aspect problem

Hi folks, I've been a proud Bravia owner for about 15 months now. It's a KDL-40s3000, and I've hit a bit of a problem with it.
Recently upgraded from Sky digital to Sky+HD, which provides a HD picture over a hdmi cable to the TV. All HD shows aired by Sky are displayed in widescreen and look good, although I'm not certain I'm seeing the whole image. Non-HD shows are aired in channel/show specific aspect ratios, the TV doesnt auto-format, and I seem to be unable to manually adjust that. The result is a skewed image.

Is it that the Bravia doesnt support other formats through it's hdmi port? (In fact there are 2 hdmi ports on the TV and I run my PC through the other at 1280x768 res without problems)
I've checked the sky manual, there seems to be very little applicable info in it.

Has anyone else seen similar problems? Any advice appreciated, thanks.

There is nothing wrong with you Sony Bravia TV and it suppport all HD and SD formats.

Are you viewing the HD version of the channel when it is showing a standard defination show. e.g SKY1 HD instead of SKY1.

This means that regular standard defination shows are in a 4:3 ratio and does not fill the whole screen. In order to view these type of shows you will need to tune to regular channel instead of the HD version.

You can check if a show is brocast in HD by going into the tv guide and checking for the HD symbol in the programme symposis.

I can't get my Sony kdl 40s3000 out of standby mode

You can look to see if power light blinks in a sequence which would be a error code but unless you are prepared to take it apart and know what to look for best left to a tech or a shop..

On Sony Bravia KDL-S40A12U screen occasionally turns black for a couple of seconds. Only happens on the HDMI channel. Sound still works, but no picture?

Possibly source issue(Box/Satt). Some HD boxes do not have very good HDMI processors or the actual program source feed may be faulty. HD sources are still not 100% efficient

Part of the picture is being cut off, how do i

Just called Sony about this same problem...taking your CABLE BOX remote, push the # key on the bottom right of the remote (it also says HD Zoom on mine). You can cycle through 4 or 5 zoom options...make sure you are on an HD channel to see the changes. :)

Bottom line for the extra connectivity and DLNA certification i would go with the
Bravia Z-Series KDL-40Z4100/B 40-Inch 1080pBecause if you connect this to your in home network you can stream music videos and music off you PC onto your TV without the need for extra wired or memory cards etc.

Otherwise if you don't need this feature the other options are identical on the other TV so it is just as good a choice.

How to change from ntsc to pal on bravia kdl-40s3000 40 "

Changing this requires a change of the tuner. There is nothing inside the set that can make this change. There are external systems that can do this, but they are expensive (multiple $100s).

Bottom line is that this would require a change in the internals of the set.
Hope this helps.
