Dishwasher smoking Hi, my built-in Frigidaire DW emitted smoke about 2/3 of the way through its cycle. It was white smoke (not steam!) and smelled like an electrical fire. I shut it off immediately. It still works but I am afraid to use it. It is approx. 8 years old. Any advice?

Depends on the colour of the smoke.
Unlikely an engine will sound healthy emitting black smoke - excess fuel.

An engine could sound healthy emitting white smoke (steam from coolant) but not from white smoke (excess unburned diesel).

Most engines emitting blue or blue-grey smoke from burning engine oil can sound very healthy.

Blue smoke is oil,white smoke steam or trans mission fluid. Check that auto fluid not going up a vacuum line if it has a modulator.

I understand that your Frigidaire dishwasher is giving off an electric burning smell and you are seeing smoke coming out of the door vent. It could possibly be an issue with your control panel or door vent, both have electrical components inside of them. Since it could be either one of these underlying issues I would recommend having a technician come out to your home and diagnose and repair the dishwasher. Hope this helps. -Matt

black is flooding and misfire.
White 1, is oil, smell like burnt oil, and take bloody for ever to clear.
White 2, is steam and is normal, but not so if smells like Antifreeze sick sweet smell and dissipates fast like moms tea pot steam.

how to you like MY smoke answers. good?

1: check all fuses in both boxes.
2: Scan the PCM. with any OBD2 scan tools , they rent for free. ask.
see DTC errors?, post em.

Its not the vent that has failed. You need to find out why the dishwasher is making smoke. The vent is only where it comes out. If you know what you are doing repair the dishwasher, if not replace it.

There are few possibilities that can cause such problem.

Not knowing any additional info on your dishwasher,one thing that comes to my mind is GE has had some recalls on many dishwashers that was to do with electrical failures, you should give them a call at 1-800-626-2000 or access their website at www.geappliances.com and type in "dishwasher recalls" in the search box at the top right of the page.

If the smoke was coming from inside the dishwasher... A common problem is a plastic item , utensil etc has fallen down onto the heating element. During the drying cycle this could possibly melt the plastic and generate some smoke.

1st, the fuse location is marked, what is the 20 Amp fuse for? 2nd, did the smoke have a nauseating sweet smell to it? If it smells like described it is the heater core leaking, coolant steam looks like smoke.
