TV turns on in the middle of the night and switches input. I read it could be due to the receiver downloading the guide in the middle of the night and causing an automatic reset and turning on the TV, but not sure why the input is changing. It goes to "TV" input from the cable. No timers are set on the TV and there does not appear to be an auto setting for the TV input.

Have you called your cable company? There may be an issue or setting with the receiver. I have never experienced this problem and have the same set up. But I do know that the tv should not be turning on when the receiver is downloading. What is the name and model number of your tv? This might help in my research of your issue

Yes, we've been working with the cable company AT&T U-Verse and they haven't been able to figure it out yet either and may try switching out the receiver in case it was faulty. The TV is a Sony KDL-46VL160.

The other option would be to contact Sony with regards to this issue. I know that most large companies charge but you can check out their online chat..this may be free but unsure.http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home... this is the link and in the bottom right corner under need help you can select the chat option. I hope this helps

I have a LG 55LS4500-UD tv and it has a 3-4 in line going up and down on the screen close to the middle of the tv (led right side near middle).

If lines do appear on all channels but not on other inputs/apps: You could have an issue with your input devices then antenna or satellite receiver, or the cable box a problem with your cable used for that device or an issue with the input board on the TV. Before having repair service, try to factory reset the TV first.
Lines can be from a processing issue or a connection problem. Generally these are due to poor connections between the processing board and the panel.

Digihome tv

It's probably checking for firmware updates. You may be able to turn this off in the menus, but you would then need to manually check for updates occasionally.

Problem with Sony KDL-46VL160 46 in. HDTV TV TV turns on in the middle of the night and switches input. I read it could be due to the receiver downloading the guide in the middle of the night and...

The problem in most of the case are:
1. Interference from a defective fluorescent lamp at your room sending signals to the infrared receiver of the TV.
2. Defective infrared receiver itself that sending noisy control signals to the CPU.
3. Defective manual control withes it has leakage.
4. Water damaged control switch PC board.

What time does the program guide suppose to download

Hi there! My name is Kimberly and I form part of the Social Media Department with DISH. It is my pleasure to assist you. All of ur receivers are set to update nightly between 1am to 3am. The nightly updates allow the receivers to update software and the programming guide. if you need to force a download on the guide simply unplug the receiver from the wall outlet for 10 seconds and plug it back in, allow it to power back on by itself, acquire signal, and download the guide. If you have any questions or need assistance with your DISH service, feel free to reach me at: [email protected]

It says no info on the programs I want to record and won't record them. The guide also shows no info in those areas.

Janette578,

Make sure the receiver is powered off each night so it can receive updates through the satellite to the guide.

You can force a guide download by unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. If that doesn't work, you can run a check switch test from Menu > System Setup > Installation > Point Dish > Check Switch > Test. Let it finish, then exit out of the menu and let it acquire signal and download the guide.

If you have any other questions, or need further assistance, let me know!

TV TURNS ON BY ITSELF IN MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT HELP

If you have eliminated the obvious things the tv must have a fault...

The obvious things - a night prowler with a remote, a cat walking across your remote, a ghost that likes to watch tv, somebody sleepwalking...

It is possible the infra red signal needed to switch on the tv is not coming from your remote. You can test this by removing the batteries or taking the remote to bed with you. If the tv still turns on then tape over the infra red receiver on the tv to eliminate the chance of some stray infra red beam from elsewhere being the culprit. If that stops the tv turning on you need heavier curtains or blinds or the tv moving perhaps, but if the tv still switches on it has a fault.

There is another thought. Digital TVs and digiboxes are often programmed to wake up periodically to check for software updates. Mine wakes up at 3am but it only checks for software updates and doesn't switch on the tv, but maybe this is what your tv is doing.

A further thought - a tv often has the functions of an alarm clock. They have a sleep function so they can switch themselves to standby after you have fallen asleep and then can wake you in the morning. Perhaps the alarm has been inadvertantly set for 2am?

These days it is rather anti-social to leave any appliance on standby. Rather than unplugging the set every night and worrying about the kids, why not arrange for the tv to be plugged in to a switched outlet so the kids can switch it on or alternatively use a cheap plug-in timeswitch to prevent the set switching on in the wee small hours...

Every time I turn my Yamaha RX-V565 on it switches to the AV1 input instead of staying on the HDMI input that it was on when I turned it off.

Set your TV, Sattellite receiver and audio where you want it when you turn on the set. Then hit the Scene button named "TV" and hold it down till the yamaha receiver says set complete and it will turn on to HDMI 2
