If the beater bar does not spin freely, and the belt still seems to be in place, then you may not need a new clutch, but you may need to reset the clutch.  This is done very simply by keeping the beater bar section of the vacuum flat on the floor and reclining the handle all the way to the floor so the entire vacuum lays flat. There is a mechanism in the vacuum which resets the clutch. You will probably not hear anything when the clutch resets.  I sat on the phone for an hour and a half to hear this simple technique is built into the vacuum, but excluded from all instructions and website customer service information.

When you lock the vacuum in the upright position, and lean it back to look at the beater bar, the bar will spin freely. This does not mean the clutch is bad, it simply means that the clutch is disengaged and the bar will spin freely. If you want to see if your bar is engaging while vacuuming, you need to turn it on, tilt the handle back into a vacuuming position, then get down on your knees and lean the vacuum sideways enough to look under the head to see if the beater bar is spinning. Do not stick your finger underneath to accomplish this, do a visual check. Note that if you lean the handle up too high during this time, you may disengage the clutch and the bar will stop spinning. Again, just because the bar spins freely does not mean your clutch is bad. Do your own checking, and you will probably discover, as I did, that my vacuum was working perfectly as designed.

HI, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

Usually you can fix a brush roller with a quick cleaning or by oiling it's bearings however once the bristles endure too much wear and tear, it is time to replace it.

If you are using your vacuum on a daily basis you will need to replace the brush roll much more frequently. You can take a look at your brush roll and see how the bristles look. If they look worn out and the bristles look loose it's time to change your brush roller. Monthly care of your brush roller will help to keep you vacuum working properly.

You can purchase your replacement Dyson parts direct from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

Beater bar not working. suction not working

Check for a broken beater brush belt. Clean the beater brush, clear of all debris and add some WD40 at each end where the rubber holders are. Turn beater brush by hand to work the WD40 into the axle. Reassemble making sure the belt is on correctly. This should also help solve the suction problem as well.

Dog hair gets caught all the time in the belt drive spool, is there a fix for this other than having to pull it out all the time by hand? I have replaced the belt and the brush but this hasnt solved the...

My Dyson started making a loud noise when in "carpet" mode. After reading a ton of forums I thought it was the clutch assembly. Got a new one on eBay for a great price. Somewhat hard to replace, but thanks to this YouTube video, I was able to get it in: http://www.ezvacuum.com/dyson-dc07dc14-clutch-assembly-90025204-genuine-p-1636.html

HOWEVER this did not resolve the issue. I realized the beater bar was not spinning or was slipping. I thought I cleaned it all out but realized you need to take the beater bar out and pop the end cap and clean out the INSIDE of the beater bar (tons of lint and cat hair). I additionally sprayed WD40 in there.

It spins great now and in the end I think that's all I had to do was clean out the cat hair build up inside the beater bar. But now I have a new clutch & belts too. Hopefully won't have issues anytime soon.

I ran over a shoe lace and now it is making a loud rattling noise

The All Floors model has a protective belt clutch system and the rattling sound means the clutch has slipped. This would have to be repaired officially by a Dyson repairer.

DC07 works with the hose - but not when upright

Check the actual brush bar is moving. If it is then there's definately a clog and it could well be behind the beater bar. If you can remove the sole plate (which is the grid in front of the beater bar) then undo it and check dirt behind the beater bar, belt and main dust channel. Also check the main inspection air ways and if the beater bar is clogged with hair, clean it off.

Brush bar came out on one side

Check that the brush bar is sitting into its proper washers at both sides of the Dyson model; sometimes it can fall out of its holding if the sole plate cover hasn't been put on properly. Also check that there is nothing obstructing the beater bar and the drive belt.
If this works, please rate.
