PS2 slim Have a one year old ps2 slim. it used to work fine games dvd cd mem cardsetc. now only games seem to work. I sat dorment for a few months with little use, i can understand if maybe nothing works but why only games and mem cards function? what gives. no mods tryin legit dvds not rips either

The laser is dirty or damaged. Try swabbing the lens with rubbing alcohol and immediately drying with canned air. if that doesn't work, a repair shop can do a more in depth cleaning, but there is the chance that the DVD portion may never work again. I do this repair about 5 times a day...

My ps2 won't read dvd movies. I put them in and nothing happens. even when i click the browse selection. It plays the games just fine, but doesn't seem to read the movies at all.

you need to have a modded ps2 to play pirated movies which are not official copies if you are using an original dvd copy then try keeping a weight say a small mobile charger or a small book on the ps2 if you are using the slim ps2

same thing happened 2 me buddy i got rockband 4 christmas it would spin but very little so i went and got a new ps2 the slim version now i can play all of the games even ps1 games there the best ur ps2 is just old

How hdd connect with slim ps2

You cannot connect a usb hardrive or anything for that matter unless you "soft mod" the ps2 you need a pro action repaly and the usb stick that comes with it and you need to put certain installtion files on the stick with your computer.

well 2 things, 1 HD i don't think works on a PS2, but it does on a PS3 with a HDMI lead, also, playing copied games, watching copied DVD's and listening to copied CD's is illegal unless you have the originals of those discs, in which case use the originals or get ur ps2 chipped in a Computer fair (NOT RECOMMENDED)

Disc error on games only

The old PS2 had lazer calibration issues, which could differentley affect the discs.

harpy_125..yes they do .but you do need an old version memory card to memorise your games. does it play music cds . if so it should read the games as these are only cd and not dvd..

PS2 Slim won't read dvd games

Blocking the sensors did you in I'm afraid. What has happened is the *DVD* read mechanism has gotten goofed because of this, but the *CD* read mechanism is still ok. Maximo and a few other PS2 games were actually on CD, not DVD. If you look on the back cover, you will see the Compact Disc logo (in the lower right area on the box for Maximo). These games have a blue bottom disc instead of the silver bottom. You can attempt to re-align the laser which is a fairly lengthy process and there are numerous guides out there to do this. Here is one: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars Note that this guide is for the larger model but the concept of lens adjustment is still the same and a quick google search will provide more in-depth detail. Since you have already opened your system, this may be an option for you. If the PS2 was purchased new as you said, it might not be the worst idea to exchange it for a new model as the lens going out this soon might be an indication that the unit wouldn't have lasted that long to begin with. Also just a friendly reminder that opening your PS2 voids your warranty and double check the return policies of where you bought the system.
