Kenmore fridge not working, ice cubes wet, freezer frosting up

I have a Kenmore side by side, which is 9 years old. Last week I noticed the fridge was not as cold. Then noticed the ice cubes were not as sold and were wet to touch, the freezer started frosting up and bread had defrosted in the freezer.

We took everything out, cleaned the fridge and defrosted it. Plugged in and after 15 hours removed our food from the bath tub full of ice-cubes and hoped ....! It started making ice cubes. The freezer section felt quite cold and the fridge not quite right but cool. After the weekend the freezer is frosting again, Items I bought on Saturday have not frozen at all though it is quite cold in there. The fridge feels normal, don't think it is chilling at all. I turned off the ice dispenser in case that was a problem. Not sure whether it has almost died and I need a new one or it could be something simple. House is up for sale, with all appliances and I can't really afford a new one at this time, especially as I will have to leave it here when house sold. Can you help advise if you think there is any hope or if I will need a new one?

My Kenmore fridge has stopped cooling, freezer not freezing with wet cubes that it stopped producing. Freezer is now frosting up.I don't know how to ID the model #. I can repair if someone can tell where the component is. It is a freezer-top unit.

You may need a new defrost module. The coils ice up when it is not working. This makes the fridge and freezer only a little cold. About 150 to 250 bucks to fix if you call a service person. Under a hundred for the part.

My Kenwood frost free Fridge Freezer KFC60SS15 has got quite a bit of ice on the drawers

Look at the door on the ice cube chute. If there is a cube stuck in it holding it open, ice will form on interior surfaces of the freezer. The door flapper must close tightly.

The freezer works, but the ice cube maker gets frosted up, and the refrigerator barely gets cool

Make sure the fan is running in the fzr the fridge side steals air from the fzr via a small duct to the fridge. If there is a lot of frost you may have an ice block on the cooling coils in the fzr usually behind a back panel. If you have an ice block your defrost timer, heating element, defrost limit one of these could be bad. Let me know if you find an ice block or a lot of frost. good luck

My Kenmore Fridge (bottom freezer type) not freezing

Look for problems you can see. Check for frost on the back wall of the freezer, If you find frost on the back wall locate the defrost timer and rotate the clutch head screw clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one click. With the timer now in the defrost position you will hear sounds in the freezer compartment such as expansion, sizzling, after a few minutes. If after say 25-30 minutes the system does not return to cooling mode ( Compressor starting) rotate the timer again SLOWLY until you hear a second click. This would indicate a bad defrost timer. If you get no defrost your problem could be a defect in the heater circuit such as an open heater or defrost thermostat. Normal defrost time would be 18-22 minutes.

Side by side kenmore

Have same problem on a 2 month old Kenmore 106.5794*700. side by side.
I can see ice / frost build up behind the lower baffle on fridge side. Does not seem to be any airflow from freezer side to fridge side. Freezer is extremely cold, it is about -23F. I read that 0F would be normal. Fridge side is warmish, running at about about +50F when it should be about +32 to +38F.

BTW: Ice pops started sticking to my tongue, thats why I noticed the unit wasn't working correctly.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the compressor is also running all the time as well. Either that or a Fan or something running. That kinda points to a stuck thermostat or some thing causing it to stick. I suspect that if the Freezer thermostat which is located in the Fridge compartment just may to rely on air flow from the freezer side via a duct, if this duct is blocked, the Freezer Thermostat misread the freezer compartment temperature and will always activate the compressor. Wish I had more details on exactly how the freezer thermostat works.

So after reading various forums on this it looks like a defrost issue causing the ice or frost build up or maybe just a faulty thermostat. Maybe there is a common circuit control board for these two functions?

As this is still in Warrranty I have a Sears Tech coming on Monday 14th Jan 08. I'll be interested to see what he does.
