Finalize a Disc on Mangavox MWR10D6

When I want to finalize a DVD+R. it seems to to use some disc space and cut into the movie that I recorded.
For example, I put the format to SP (Slow Play 2Hr.) and recorded a movie that was 1 1/2 hours and then finalized to play on another dvd player, but for some reason the last 20 minutes of the movie was cut off.
Is this normal to use disc space to finalize a DVD disc

No. Generally finalising just writes the unused spaces as unused so the player knows and adds a stop code. The shorter the DVD the longer the finalise. An hour and a half on two hours is plenty of space.

I tried to dub old vcr home movies to a dvd and I accomplished that but when I tried to play dvds on my computer or other player the dvd could not be read. What do I do?

Did you finalize the disc? Make sure that you left some space on the disc after dubbing the movies. The finalization adds data onto the disc.

To finalize, put the disc back in recorder. Press Setup on the remote. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight Disc Edit and press OK. Highlight the Finalize option and press OK. Select Yes and press OK. Wait for the procedure to finish.

In the future when you record, you may want to use the Auto-Finalize option. For more information, look at the manual. The finalize and auto-finalize steps start at page 44. The manual is available here: http://download.p4c.philips.com/files/z/zv427mg9_f7/zv427mg9_f7_dfu_aen.pdf .

If you did finalize the disc, then check that your computer has DVD-playing software. Starting with Windows 8, Microsoft stopped offering the Windows Media Center by default. You could purchase a DVD playback app from the Microsoft store. Alternatively, there are third-party DVD playback programs. VLC is free, https://www.videolan.org/ . Others, including Cyberlink PowerDVD, cost money.

Some DVD players do not read all discs. Some only read DVD-R (DVD-RW) even after the disc is finalized.

I hope this helps.

Won't play on any other dvd

You have to use your friend's DVD recorder to finalize the disc. Once the DVD is finalized, it will play in other DVD players.
On your friend's DVD recorder, pop the disc in, and use his remote to go to Setup --> Disc Edit --> Finalize --> OK
Voila!

About finalizing

Once a DVD+R or DVD-R has been finalized, it cannot be edited again. You are stuck with whatever you have. On the other hand, you have to finalize the disc to make it playable on other DVD players.
The exceptions are DVD+RW, which, according to the manual, does not have to be finalized, and DVD-RW, which you can "Undo Finalize" in the "SETUP/Disk Edit" Menu

How to finalize

i have spent 2 months looking for this answer myself... and at last success! i downloaded the user manual from funai(they made this model) available here: http://www.funai-corp.com/6pdf/om/MWR10D6.pdf on page 38 it instructs you to press setup on your remote, from the drop down menu you need to select disc edit and then select finalize. this aggravated me at first because nothing happens when i hit the setup button, i powered off the unit and hit setup before the disc loaded. this step is not mentioned but is necesary. you cannot finalize a disc after it has loaded to the title menu.
