SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V657 Zone 2

Suggestion by clarkent22

I called and spoke with Yamaha support staff (Chuck) who was very helpful. I was able to get my issue resolved hopefully this works for you too.

Couple of solutions:
1) Go into the Menu setting (Manual SetUp/Speaker Set) and make sure that you do not have Presence Speakers or Suround Back Speakers
2) Also in the Menu settings (Manual SetUp/Options/Multi Zone Settings) make sure that your Zone 2 Amplifier is set to "Int" (assuming you are not using external amp
3) Zone 2 can only accept an analog signal (not digital)... so there are two steps to this one. First, make sure that you either run only analog, or if you run digital and analog then you need to select "Analog Input" on the front of the unit. If yours was working earlier, my guess is that your input settings got switched to digital (or auto) You need to have analog set up for each specific external source (DVD, Cable/DTS, etc)....
4) This model receiver will only let you control Zone 2 with the remote control. You can power it on the receiver unit. But to select your source you have to press the Amp button, then the ** button. Then you control Zone 2 and you can toggle sources and adjust volume. (Check your owners manual for programing remote for zone 2.. think I pressed the "code" button and then 2999.)

Hope this helps... it worked for me If not call Yamaha they were very helpful.

SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V663 Multi-zone question.

i just got the same receiver like few days ago im still leaning it too,it is a very nice receiver though. here is some settings to help you.
check this to make sure zone 2 is showing in the menu,
on remote
menu, basic setup, speaker set, extra should show zone 2 it might show zone b...presence...or none needs set on zone 2 hit the left a-e/cat button it is weird the right doesnt circle all around? i had to call crutchfield tech for that one(GREAT COMPANY!)so that is for the setting to make sure zone 2 is set up now some to adjust the volume.
menu, manual, options, zone 2 set. here you can set 2 features
max volume( the loudest it will play) inti vol(the volume that it will play at when it is turned on) the yamaha has alot of quirks to it but has a very nice sound. for second zone features and a easier receiver to set up i have onkyo and they are very easy to set up zone 2 olume and everything on the front panel. hope you dont have to try to program a universal remote to work it seems yamaha uses discrete codes that are impossible to find i tried one universal and can only get very basic features to work.
hope this helps you out,
jeff

SOURCE: Zone 2 problem

I know this is old and im sure you have it solved by now, but it might be a good idea to check the amp setting of Zone 2. Is it switched to Internal or external? I remember something strange about this amp in that when you change from using the rear surrounds and go to use them in Zone 2, it resets the amp setting or something like that. Hope it helps if you still need it.

SOURCE: I am onlty showing two channel speakers

Hello..if you have the manual for setting up you need to go to page 32 and use the auto set up to check out the system ..in this area it will test the speakers and even adjust the equalizer with the supplied osd microphone.. it will give various audio signals to all the speakers and even warn if a speaker is out of phase. After that test follow up carefully the other pages under speaker assignments. I hope that helps .

I have 2 qustions?

my guess is that the yamaha has pre-amp outs, most yamaha stuff does, and that is the one you should be using for the main, and hooking up to the onkyo, and letting the yamaha be your zone controler, and the onkyo be your remote amp for your second zone (if your onkyo had pre-amp outs it would work how your trying to do it, but it dont) so exchange there places, and run a pre amp out to any input of your onkyo, and you'll have total volume control of your outside speakers

Sound problem, zone 2 speakers work only

A soft reset might help; with the system on, hold down the VCR button and then Standby. The screen will read "Clear" and then turn off. When you turn it back on it is supposed to be just like it came from the factory.

How do I connect my outside speakers to play?

The onkyo should still have a speaker A/B selector in the menu.
Check on the back panel for speaker A/B.
If it has or you decide to use Zone 2 you will need to set the sound programme to "stereo" so the rears and centre do not work.
You can still use a digital source.
You should be able to display the amp's menu on the screen.
Hook up "monitor out" (Yellow) via RCA connector to one of the "A/V inputs" (yellow) on the tv, this will show you a display of the menu and will make it eaiser to navigate.

I have the Onkyo HT-S5100, the 5 speaker are set

also, you might have to search through the menu of the receiver, and set the surround back speakers to be zone 2 instead of using the 7.1 configuration that is probably default.

i think zone 2 will only play sources that are hooked up with analog connects, ie. red/white cables. try using the radio to see if it works. you might have to hook up your cable/sat box, cd player, dvd player, whatever you have that you want to listen to with both digital and analog cables to get everything to work right.

Zone 2 speakers only work with the tuner - no sound comes out when switched to DVD, Cable/SAT, ect. All of my other devices (DVD player, Satellite Receiver, ect.) run through the receiver. How do I get...

hi,

zone 2 will only work with analog sources so if your dvd, cable and other devices are connected via HDMI, that alone won't work. What you need to do is hook up RCA (red and white) cables from the dvd player to dvd in of the receiver and same thing for your satellite box (and other sources.) no need to change any setting on the receiver. This way, the HDMI will take care of your main room speakers and the RCA will feed your zone 2 speakers.

Hope this helps.
