Epson Stylus RX500 All-In-One InkJet Printer Logo
Posted on Sep 11, 2007

Epson RX500 Hi, I have the Epson RX500 and I recently bought a new computer which has windows vista. I am unable to get my printer to work now and was wondering if it is because of vista. Is there a way to make my printer compatiable? When I use the software there are some drivers that are not compatiable and then my computer will download some drivers, but still will not work. Thanks in advance, Devin

Same thing really. New laptop with Vista OS on it. Old printer (RX500). Tried new drivers from everywhere we could find, incl. Epson's site, but to no avail. When I try to "Add a Printer", I cannot choose the correct printer from the list. Installing the new driver doesn't give me any more options. Fed up, and thinking about dumping this printer for a new one! Please help.

I recently bought a new Gateway computer and when I tried to install my canon printer from the disc, it would not install it for me. I have a Canon Oixma MP210 SERIES printer that I bought three months...

You might want to check Canon's website to see if they provide a downloadable driver that will make your printer Vista compatible. Years ago, I had the same problem with an Epson all-in-one when making the jump from Windows 98 to XP. I was able to download and install a driver from Epson that restored most (but not all) of the device's functions.

You need the Vista drivers, you can download what you need here

RX500 and vista

Windows Vista printer and scanner drivers are available for your product. The printer software is available by using the Automatic Software Update service built into Windows Vista. The scanner software is available for download through Epson’s website.

Please follow these steps to set up your Epson product and automatically download the Windows Vista printer driver for it from Microsoft:

1. Connect the USB cable to your computer and then to your Epson product.

2. When the FOUND NEW HARDWARE window appears, select Locate and Install Driver Software (Recommended).

3. Your Epson product drivers will install automatically. You may need to select this option more than once during installation.

4. Close any open windows on your screen.

5. Try printing.

-Depending on your system the computer may ask for your Windows disk, if so insert your Windows CD into your CD-ROM drive and click OK.
-As the driver is part of Windows Vista, there is no Status Monitor available for your printer. Some printers may have an INK LEVELS options included as part of the resident driver. Otherwise, the printer does have its own indicators. The LCD will display which cartridge is either low or out of ink.
-If the ink levels do not appear, click GET INK LEVELS to refresh the driver. Ensure the printer is directly connected to the computer as the Ink Levels does rely on full bidirectional communication.

Epson RX500 printer

I am a Photo-Artist and require all the features given my by the RX500. I use slide film in my work and I can strongly attest that this printer did a fantastic job for me for almost 31/2 years. It just recently started showing me its age which I can certainly accept considering the thousands of 81/2 X 11 prints it has beautifully done for me.
To answer your question, the instructions are easy and you DO need to load the disk supplied, into your computer as instructed in Epsons guide. As far as the wiring, well that is just a single common plug that you connect to your computer. The only other wire is the power cord itself. I recommend you follow the instructions step by step, you can't miss.
