I have a Maytag refridgerator that's about ten years old. It's a french door style with an ice maker and a dispenser on the exterior of the door for ice and water. about a year ago it started leaking water from around the dispensing area but I'm not sure from exactly where (the drip tray seems to fill up most of the time though) water then runs down the front of the fridge and onto the ground. I just shut the water off to temporarily solve the problem but I would like to fix it the right way. If you have any ideas for where to start I would appreciate it.

Re: Maytag refridgerator leaking water down the front
It sounds as though you may have a 'dodgey' water solenoid valve which is allowing a constant flow through the valve. When the water enters the cabinet it goes into a double solenoid valve which splits the suply to the ice machine and the water supply. This valve can get limescale build up preventing it from closing properly. This is really the only control you have over the water supply. The solution I would suggest is replacing this valve. However I would suggest getting a professional to do this as you would then get some sort of guarantee on the work carried out. This valve is located on the rear of the cabinet normally on the RHS. Hope this is of some help.

Sounds like you have to have a leak in the water line somewhere. The water line goes to the top hinge in the door, so the water has to come from somewhere below that point or it would be collecting inside the door and leak out the front. A leak would prevent water from getting to the ice maker, or a leak at the valve could have this effect as well. Check the water valve that gets a call to send water to the ice maker.
It sounds like you have a malfunctioning ice maker that could lead to future problems. The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor.
