Hi Angela, you would connect the tape deck to the tape in and out inputs on the back of the Onkyo, if you need assistance please give us a call at 800-229-1687 our Product Support Team is here 24/7 ready to assist, Thanks, JT
Hi, I can give you this link. You can download the service manual of this Onkyo. I hope it will be usable for you. When you get to the site using the link it is possible that you have to wait a little bit to be able to download. After waiting you should see a button as "Get Manual" and simply click on it and save the file. Thanks. gylacz
By the fault you describe this sounds very much like a belt problem. Take the case off the deck and check the belt(s). Some decks can use more than one belt and you need to look at their condition.
Are they too slack around pulleys maybe? Belts don't last forever and I'm not too sure of the age of your deck. But personally, I would change them all.
Make sure the tape path is clean as well, clean heads, pinch roller and capstan.
