16 months after my purchase i was watching my sony 50 in. plasma tv and all of a sudden i heard a pop sound and screen went black.I tried to turn it on and off but it didn't work.it's been over a year so i'm out of warranty.not sure what to do at this point..
I had this same exact issue yesterday. I own the same TV model and here is what SONY had me do to get the picture back. Ultimately the picture comes back, but it will be very dim and needs repair. Most likely a power supply issue. Try these steps:
-Press power off or leave with standby light on for 5 minutes (wait the full 5 minutes)
-Unplug TV / Press top buttons 5 times each to remove static from system boards (yes, each button 5 times each)
-Wait one full minute and plug TV in and press power on

Happened twice to me - waiting for repair to come out now. My warranty paper says I have two years of on-site repair. Why is yours only one year??

This has happened to my sony TV now 3 times. The problem is that the tube or fuse in the back blows and then gives no picture. The problem can usually be fixed with a new part that can be installed at your house. However being that this is my 3rd time and has happened with other similar models I have to say Sony probably released a bad model.

I tried to see where you come from but it was unspecified. If you are in the States you might be lucky....go here and have a look they might be able to fix your screen up.. http://lcdrepair.net

SOURCE: samsung 50 inch plasma
I have found the most common problems with the symptom you have described, to be the SMPS PCB. Sometimes the Y Main will cause the power supply to short out and lower a voltage in that area. Your set has a two year warranty. Call 1-800-Samsung to find an authorized servicer in your area.

Did you figure out the problem. My Sony Plasma has the same problem. I heard a pop and poof, the image was all green and monotone.
My TV has lasted for almost 19 months. While I was watching TV it made a lout popping noise and then the screen went black. Sometimes I can see a monochrome picture but overall the TV is worthless now. It's outside the warranty so I'll have to go to a local repair shop to see if it's fixable.
Same exact thing jus happened to mine, 20 months old and they say it is under warranty, waiting on tech, they say it may take three weeks or longer.
heard a pop and tv went blank
