If its just saying write protected, that means you cannot copy new information on to the disc, you should still be able to retrieve and copy information off of the disc. If you haven't tried already open up the disc from my computer, and you should be able to view the files and copy what you need.

SOURCE: DVD-Rom drive doesn't work.

go to "My Computer" and right-click the icon representing the drive, then select "Eject." If that works, you know your drive is OK.

SOURCE: write protection

Get this program:
http://www.4shared.com/file/72797673/93a74bfa/UsbWriteProtect.html

You might need to get winrar from http://www.rarlab.com/
to open the rar file.

Extract all the files to a new folder, run the exe file and click the or disable Radio button and close the program.

Now remove the pen drive and plug it back in to the USB slot, Now open my computer and try to create a new folder in the pen drive, you can't. You get an error. That's what you wanted right? :-)

SOURCE: it won't let me open a password protected disc

very simple , if you have just deleted/unistalled a software which locks/password protects the system then you must reinstall it . Secondly you make sure you unchecked all the software functioning options inside when you open it now . Lastly try unlocking the system using the same software given capability to unlock if there is one (try several times if it doesnt work the first time), if it doesnt work then try unistalling the software again manually reinstall option given by the software and not through the control panel ,So then restarting the system and then see if its unlocked now.

Msi a6200 won't read ANY discs lately.....not sure what or where to start any info would help.

It seems like you have a hardware issue, clean lens with rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip gently, allow several minutes to dry, if no change, remove screw from the bottom where the drive is and take it out, now reseat it back in place, if still the same go to www.ebay.com Type: make and model of laptop, refine search to cd/dvd driver.

Backing up your iTunes library to a CD or DVD To burn a CD (CD-R or CD-RW), your computer must have a compatible CD burner. To burn a DVD (DVD-R or DVD-RW), your computer must have a compatible DVD burner. Check in iTunes Preferences to see if a drive is compatible. See below for steps.
To create your backup disc
  1. Choose File > Library > Back up to Disc.
  2. Select the option you want from the resulting dialog and click Back Up.
  3. The two options you can select from are:
    • Back up entire iTunes library and playlists
    • Back up only iTunes Store purchases
Whichever of these two options you choose, note that you can also choose "Only back up items added or changed since last backup" to perform an incremental backup.
  4. Insert a blank disc (CD or DVD) into your computer's optical drive. iTunes will scan the disc and begin burning.
  5. Note: If the disc you insert does not have enough space to hold all of the content you will be backing up, a dialog will appear asking whether you wish to backup to multiple discs. You can click Data Discs to continue.
iTunes burns the number of items that fit on one disc and then asks you to insert subsequent discs to continue burning the remaining files. Don't eject a disc while a backup is in progress.
Spoken programs purchased from the Audible.com website are not backed up.
Discs you create using the iTunes backup feature can be used only to restore; they can't be played in a CD or DVD player.

Restoring from a backup disc
  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Insert your backup disc.
  3. iTunes will ask whether you want to restore from this disc. Click Restore.
Check drive compatibility
  1. Choose a playlist on the left side of the iTunes window.
  2. Click the Burn Disc button on the bottom right corner of iTunes.
  3. If the drive is listed, it's compatible.

DVP-NS30 shows "CANNOT PLAY" message when DVD inserted

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the DVD player cannot read or play the inserted disc.
  1. Ensure the inserted disc is compatible with the DVD player.IMPORTANT: Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product for a list of compatible disc. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
  2. Use a soft cloth to clean the disc.
  3. Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
  4. Attempt to play another disc.NOTES:
    • If another disc plays in the DVD player, then the previous disc is faulty.
    • Some recordable discs may not play correctly because of the quality of the recording, the physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device or authoring software used.

  5. Remove the disc from the DVD player.
  6. Turn off the DVD player.
  7. Unplug the power cord of the DVD player from the AC outlet.
  8. Let the DVD player remain without power for 1 minute.
  9. Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
  10. Turn on the DVD player.
  11. Insert the disc into the DVD player.
  12. Attempt to play the disc.
If still persists, its time for your device to get serviced.

DVD R/W doesn't read the disc

Hello my friend, try to insert another brand new disk with no scratch to test if its still work. If it is not then try to ship back the device to its supplier or find technician in your place to assist you in order to check if that device is still working. Sometimes the laser eye of the DVD ROM is something to do with that. also try to  clean your DVD ROM if you have disk cleaner.  Hope thisadvice helps you. Just contact me if you need more assistance. Just reply to thispost. Thank you

Unable to copy dvd's

Most dell machines do no come with dvd rewriting as standard. They only come with cd rewriting capability. Unless you specifically requested it as an add on to the spec it probably just has the ability to pay dvd's.

Most internet cafe's will have a machine with a dvd rewriter if you really need to copy a dvd
