Pead only cannot write or copy

Try cleaning the head with a burst of clean air from a compressor. Be careful not use air with oil or water mixed into it. Sometimes, with the mere blowing of air from your mouth would clean the lens.

Control panel,administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select no _ for your specific area

what kind of CD/DVD-ROM are you using? Sometimes the CD are protected and cannot be played with every ROM. and also try playing another CD/DVD to study if it would do the same.About opening the CD/DVD-ROM if it is still not opening get an office-pin and push it into the small visible hole on the CD/DVD-ROM

Try cleaning the CD-Rom of it.
Just simply blow air near it or buy a special tools for CD-Rom cleaning at local electronics shop.

try to uninstall the cd rom.... then restart your computer

It's not asking for a specific disc, it's asking for a properly formatted PlayStation disc.

This message could mean that any one of several things has happened:
* You are trying to play a Japanese disc on a US PS2, or vice versa
* You are trying to play a game that has been copied onto a CD-R/DVD-R
* Your disc is scratched/dirty/otherwise unreadable
* Your disc isn't a format that the PS2 recognises (i.e. CD, DVD, PS CD-ROM, PS2 CD-ROM, PS2 DVD-ROM, etc)
* Your PS2 is broken

Try installing a DVD rom. The sony unit installed in your laptop is a cd rom/burner. Cd roms will not play DVDs.

CD-RW drives can only read all CD-rom and CD-RW formats and read DVD formats but cannot write to a DVD, if you want to write a DVDs you need to buy a DVD-RW burner which can burn all CD-formats

Have you tried more than 1 dvd.

Sounds like your D: drive isn't a DVD-ROM drive.

Have you been able to run DVDs from that drive before?
- If not, then you probably have a standard CD-ROM or CD-RW drive, which is not capable of reading from a DVD. You would have to purchase a DVD-ROM drive in order to play or copy anything from a DVD.
