NO I did not. I have Symphonic SR90VE and I can't find a disc tht works. It always says disc error. Once I find one tht worked and it told me I had to finalize it to view it on other vcrs or dvd players. I don't know how to finalize or what type of Dvd I used that worked. I also would like to download a copy of the manual.

My BBK DW9937S dead too. But I changed its DVDWriter to NEC5170 (and now I've got an DW9938 because I can burn even DVD-R/RW disks too). As I mentioned above almost any combo VHS/DVDwriter has the IDE DVDRW inside (I hope you guess how to fix it)
mine did tht and i took it in and htey told me tht there was nothign for me to do and tht i had to get a new one then i got a new on and it didint work sooo i took it back then they said tht there must be something with my t.v witch there isnt cuz i have a ps2 connected to its a glitch in the system if u get a new on just trade you old on in they should give u wat u payed and then u can buy a new one
FYI, I did the 8x upgrade and the unit became flakier. So one time it handled 8x discs and the next no. So it went from very stable to hit or miss. Redid the update and the same problem.
2x RW discs work ok in it and can be read, edited, and formatted in my newer recorder that handles 16x discs.
I have 3 of these machines. I do not think it likes theRW disc's. Two of my machines are 4X & one is 8X. I have very great success with 4X DVD-R & 8X DVD-R disc's. I hear they have a fix for upgrading to 8X speed. Here is the link with the information:
