The pump is probably bone dry, you will need to put some water into it under pressure. I have a piece of hose in my workshop that fits the seal that the tank engages into, it's about 8 to 10" long. I engage the hose, fill it with water, activate the pump and seal my mouth over the hose and blow as hard as I can like I'm blowing up a balloon, it rarely fails.

I had the same problem .... My gasket split and I replaced it and water was still leaking past the gasket... Try this - Don't tighten the screen screw all the way...I have mine set at about 6 turns counterclockwise from fully tightened. Loosen the screen screw more if needed until the leaking stops... As a result, the gasket will sit lower and make a better seal with the portafilter lip.

i'm going to go out on a limb here , since i don't have a model number , is this your model (krups espresso mini #962) ?

The part for your XP4000 is the brew head seal. A Google search turned them up here:

It doesn't show the XP962 but it gives their phone number and says to call if you don't see what you need. So maybe they can help.

In general, when you want to search for something on the Internet, start with a good search engine (I use Google but there are others of course) and give a search string like "krupps kp40000 parts". Then you can check out the links it gives you until you find what you need.

If it is brand new you should not be expected to figure it out, take it back to the shop. Any messing about with a brand new appliance can only harm your guarantee, let them figure it out. It sounds like the pump valves are dry or stuck.
