My suggestion is that you use Driver Max.

On HP.com/Support, I don't see the audio driver for the Compaq Presario V6406TU when using Windows XP,

I do see it when Vista is the Operating System,

Was Vista on your computer, and you switched to WinXP?
You might try this. The website states use at your own risk, so I am stating that also,

Okay. Let's go to how you installed these drivers. Not that I'm doubting your computer prowess, nor am I stating that I may be any better.
Please tell me how you went about it.
I also have read a lot of bad things about Microsoft's Service Pack 3, for Windows XP, and wonder if this is creating an issue also.
Believe it may be time to contact one of the Experts. Perhaps let them assist you in this.

Usually answered in minutes!
it could not identify the missing audio driver. The sound, video and controller hardware doesnt show either.
it simply lists the existing drivers n tries to update it.
My OS has always been XP and I had XP before too. I have tried with the Vista drivers from the HP site for V6406TU. The other drivers work for XP but the audio driver does not work. In fact I tried out a number of audio drivers from the HP website but none works.
Thanks for the update but I tried that too before. It did not help.
I have the drivers in CD and also in my computer. I simply double clicked the drivers. I installed UAA first and then tried to install the Audio Driver. I tried to install it through the Add Hardware wizard where I selected the driver manually. The Conexant High Definiton Audio Driver starts installing but then fails in the end.
I reinstalled XP and this time installation of the audio driver worked. I guess few files were missing from the OS before which got installed this time. I appreciate your help in this regard. Thanks a ton.
