I reformatted my laptop HP V6406TU with XP SP3. I installed all the drivers successfully except the audio driver. I even installed UAA. When I m trying to install the Audio driver it shows Conexant High Definition Audio installation failure. I ve tried with all sorts of audio drivers that HP had to offer from the site but all in vain.I even tried to install the audio drivers from Add hardware option and the Have disk option in the found new hardware wizard. That didnt work too. No help from forums was successful. I spoke to the technical support of HP too. They were not able to do much too. Anyone's help in this regard would be highly appreciated. Thanks a ton

it could not identify the missing audio driver. The sound, video and controller hardware doesnt show either.

it simply lists the existing drivers n tries to update it.

My OS has always been XP and I had XP before too. I have tried with the Vista drivers from the HP site for V6406TU. The other drivers work for XP but the audio driver does not work. In fact I tried out a number of audio drivers from the HP website but none works.

  • watzinanid Apr 13, 2009

Thanks for the update but I tried that too before. It did not help.

  • watzinanid Apr 13, 2009

I have the drivers in CD and also in my computer. I simply double clicked the drivers. I installed UAA first and then tried to install the Audio Driver. I tried to install it through the Add Hardware wizard where I selected the driver manually. The Conexant High Definiton Audio Driver starts installing but then fails in the end.

  • watzinanid Apr 14, 2009

I reinstalled XP and this time installation of the audio driver worked. I guess few files were missing from the OS before which got installed this time. I appreciate your help in this regard. Thanks a ton.

My suggestion is that you use Driver Max.

On HP.com/Support, I don't see the audio driver for the Compaq Presario V6406TU when using Windows XP,
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...

I do see it when Vista is the Operating System,
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...

Was Vista on your computer, and you switched to WinXP?

You might try this. The website states use at your own risk, so I am stating that also,

Okay. Let's go to how you installed these drivers. Not that I'm doubting your computer prowess, nor am I stating that I may be any better.
Please tell me how you went about it.

I also have read a lot of bad things about Microsoft's Service Pack 3, for Windows XP, and wonder if this is creating an issue also.

My compaq presario v3700 windows xp laptop audio is not working.

I see that your Laptop was not pre-installed with XP, it was with Vista. Installing XP on it, will be a downgrade which is not recommended by them (HP). In HP Laptops, there is always trouble making the device and drivers work with retail version OS.

Anyways, I got the audio driver for XP, you can give it a try....

The Audio is a High definition Audio and we can not install the Audio driver ditectly without installing the UAA (Universal Audio Architecture) driver in Windows XP. So, first install UAA driver (restart) then install Audio driver (restart).

UAA driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33566.exe

Audio driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32864.exe

I was using xp3 but after changing it to xp2 i get mssge while trying trying to install audio Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver

Your laptop recommends to install UAA driver package first.
So I suggest you to download the UAA driver package first& install it, You can download it from below website link:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3375995&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3375953&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093

After installing UAA then you install the audio driver, I am sure your problem will be fixed.

In Sp3 the UAA package is inbuilt but in Sp2 it is not inbuilt.

Note: Do not install the audio driver First, You need to first install UAA bus driver and then if you install the audio driver it will work.
You can also download the audio driver from the same site above mentioned if needed.

Rate my solution.

Sound Drive Problem in ASUS PSGC MX 1333

  1. Remove all previously installed Realtek drivers
  2. Reinstall the UAA driver (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111/en-us)
  3. Reboot
  4. Install the Realtek driver again
This is a very common issue with realtek drivers.

Here is the link for UAA driver:

Cannot find media device driver

Your Notebook is installed with High Definition audio card which XP cannot recognize by default. Installing Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) will allow XP to recognize High Definition audio cards.

Download the Microsoft UAA drivers for Windows XP form the link:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe

Restart the Notebook after the UAA Drivers are installed.

Now, download Conexant High Definition Audio Drivers for your Notebook for XP :

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34386.exe

You should be able to install the Audio Drivers without any issues.
