It has an OS that allows it to communicate to your PC etc. This is not a faulty device even your own pc will not allow you to utilize the whole amount of harddrive that you have ..its partitioned for the Operating System.

Its normal for this to happen. A hard drive does the same thing. The computer itself uses a few megabytes. My 4 gig did the same.

Usb removable disk is suddenly showing as local disk

Check that the safety switch is not on the USB. Some of them have a simple on off switch that gets turned off. I have made that mistake myself even knowing they are there. If there is not one of these switches I would try the device in another computer and see if it comes up the same way again.

How do you format it on your computer?

You need card reader for access memory card or if you have mobile memory card then you can connect your mobile to computer with usb cable.
Or insert memory card into card reader and connect that card reader to computer with usb cable.
Then you can see your memory card in my computer as removable storage.
Then right click on it then click on format then choose FAT32 and quick format then it format your memory card.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

I have mistakenly formated my TDK 8GB TRANS-IT FLASHDRIVE and altough it is empty it looks only 9.95MB capacity. Any suggestion to solve this?

When the flash memory USB hard drive device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it.
Try formatting using Disk manager.
Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

My memory card is of 8gb but its showing only 448 mb free space and no all files are empty..what can be the problem and how can i fix it?

Sometimes when a flash memory stick fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs).
Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health

KD7A MB and USB problem

This sounds like a problem with the card in the camera, not the motherboard. Defective cards or unformatted drives behave this way. You might want to try Picasa for uploading, or insert the card in a card reader and see if you can access it that way. See your camera manual for instructions about formatting the card.
