Help please I need to replace the thermostatin a Zanussi ZCF 164 chest freezer . The eletrical end is straight forward, but the sender end of the capillary tube disappears into the back of the freezer. How do you get at this, do you have to empty the contents and access it from the inside? Thanks, Peter.
In order for the "stat" to sense the coldness of the freezer box it needs to be within the chilled space. it is probably held on by a couple of clips on the underside of the freezer compartment on the evaporator plate.

Thanks, I have just had a quick look and assume that the evaporator plate must be inside the inner casing and accessable only with the unit empty of all frozen food and the lining removed in some way.
I have a 6 ft Elba (EF660) chest freezer occasionally with the ventilation fan in the compressor compartment runing but the compressor not running and with the clicking sound coming from the thermal cutoff. With my thermostat set to the minimum coldness (no 1 of 10 division) I am getting - 23 degree C . Notice that the thermostat dial can not go smoothly to 0 , it was kind of tight when I force it to 0 and getting a click sound , that will cause the compressor to shut down.
When the freezer fan running and compressor not on, I will normally switch off from the mains and switch it back on again after an hour or so. Then it will be running fine until it start to play up again.
On occasion when it is working fine at min. setting of 1 coldness, when it normally auto off apparently when it reach it set coldness , I turn the dial up to max. coldness of 10 , the compressor just doesnt come in . Am I correct to assume that the thermostat is not in working order (maybe in permanent max coldness) , stressing up my compressor and causing the occasional failure of the compressor to cut in due to the overheating causing the thermal overload protection to intervene .
Dont mind to replace the thermostat, how to go about it ? The sensing probe go into a copper tube into the freezer as I can see from the compressor compartment, trying to pull it out but it is not coming out , is it secured by a clip inside and how do I get access to it ?
Will appreciate if any one can advice . Thank you .
