I was halfway through printing a word document of 35 pages, suddenly printer stopped and bottom light started flashing. No matter what I do I cannot get it to go off. I have cleaned the printer connections, changed the cable but it seems it is an internal printer problem. These cleaning steps are from the 810C user manual.
1 Double-click the HP DeskJet Toolbox icon on the computer screen.
2 Click the Printer Services tab.
3 Click Clean the print cartridges and follow the directions on the screen.
The inkjet uses ink, not toner. When the light is blinking it indicates something is wrong with one of the cartridges, such as can't find it, not installed, out of ink, improperly installed, printer has died. First thing to try is to disconnect the power (not just power off) for 5 - 10 minutes and reconnect. If that does not resolve it, inspect the cartridges and reinstall them. If you have another printer that uses the same cartridges, try the cartridge in it. if not, get another set of cartridges and install them. If none of these steps resolve the problem, chances are that the printer is the problem and is probably not worth spending additional time on it.
Scrap it. I suspect your 810C has the same problem as mine - it's buggered. I have done everything to address the blinking cartridge light but nothing works. I've come to the conclusion that it's a mechanical/electrical problem and that my 810C, which has worked pretty well, bar the odd tantrum, for many years now, has come to the end of its life. Very possibly its demise has been hastened by the use of remanufactured cartridges, a practice I will continue as long as the real McCoys are such a rip-off.
