Somehow, my mps player went into a
"repeat" mode and I can't get it out.
I have put "shuffle" on, but that
is changed to "repeat" when I am ready
to play. I have to manually change the
song after hearing the previous note.

If you set the play mode to shuffle. It should shuffle whatever you are playing, be it All Music, An album or a playlist.
you can set the player to shuffle by pressing the "M" button. from the menu choose "Repeat" mode press "Previous/Next" to scroll through the options until you get to "shuffle". [Press "Play/Pause" to confirm and press M to return to sub menu.

It depends on the model. Usually receivers don't have this option because they only receive and mix the sound. The CD player will have the shuffle option. Usually the MODE or PLAYBACK function will toggle through the options of shuffling, repeating all, repeating one, or sequential mode.
