I am installing my machine to a new computer, and do not have the written instructions for set up. I do not know how to go through the set up so I can print. I do not use the fax at all, so no help needethere. So far, I have never used the copier or the scanner. My only use for the machine is basically for printing un til I am more experienced using a PC. I am a late learner. I would appreciate any help given.
NOTE: I was not allowed to use the correct number instead of 240c it should be 3420c

Re: BrotherMFC 3420c Setup
Insert the cd that came with the printer. if your bootup sequence is standard, the machine will start off the C drive first then go searching out the CD. choose install off the CD. once the program installs itself and you restart, go to the printer directory and find tutorials. look in here for aids to help you print.

If you go to this link you can download the manuals and all the drivers (basically a dictionary for your computer and printer to talk to each other) you need. Once you install the drivers and follow the quick setup guide pdf you should be set to use your printer with your computer.

insert your cd and go to windows explorer. when your machine's directory comes up, go to where the cdrom is and click on it. it should show all the programs on the cd. where it says view, click on it and choose "list" if you can view the file extensions look for a .exe extension like: install.exe or setup.exe click on this and the install or setup should start. if it won't a problem is with your computer not the install cd.
Have you installed RAM? If not the machine will not boot.
You may also need to enter the BIOS setup to set the CPU and DRAM voltages and multiplyers etc. Follow the instructions in the manual for setting up the CPU info in the BIOS.
Are you sure your PSU has enough guts to run the setup? Many times have i seen setups fail because a cheap power supply has been overstretched.
Hi, According to the User Manual any Machine Error (XX or in your case 41) refers to a mechanical problem. You have to call Brother Customer Service (USA: 1-800-284-4329; Canada: 1-877-BROTHER; Montreal: (514) 685-6464. You can also try checking out the machine, if it is new, check that all the plastic/tape retainers are removed (outside and inside); it is also possible that there is a locking lug/nut or screw somewhere (most likely underneath) that is only needed when in transit or when shipped that must be removed/opened/released when the machine is to be in operation.
The USB connection is essential, it is the PC interface (and normally should be included in the box but can be bought from any computer outlet). This is how your PC communicates what it wants to be printed to your 3420C.
Hope this works for you. Good luck.
