My tv is not even 2 years old. We had the original remote and one day the volume wouldnt turn up anymore, but you could do everything else, and then a while after you couldnt turn channels anymore but you could turn it on and off, and then finally it all went out. I thought it was just the remote not working, so I was doing without for a while (since I couldnt find a code for my tv for a universal remote) but then MONTHS later, just recently, the tv stopped turning on all together. I cant turn it on with the buttons on the front of the tv. I've changed outlets, let the tv sit, no noise, no nothing. It just stopped?

Most likely you have a locked up micro on the main board. You would need to have the main board replaced. If the set is not under warranty your cost to repair would exceed your cost to replace.

I also had this same problem. Both the original remote and my universal remote failed to give any response on the TV. Normally the green light flashes when it receives a command from the remote. Called LG Support and they made me an appointment with a local repair company for 3 days later. This seemed pretty quick compared to other companies repair times I'd read about. However next day the repair company called to say it would be 5 more days before they could get a Tech to my location (downtown ATL). 8 days was a long time to wait but once tech arrived he diagnosed it to a bad board and simply went to his truck and swapped it out with mine under factory warranty. Everything has been fine since.
I have this same problem, just started 2 days ago. Changed batteries in remote and everything - driving me nuts- now i cannot change channel or adjust volume! I powered off TV, took batteries out of remote, turned back on and now still stuck. I think we bought junk!
There's a setting in the menu. I think it's called "smart audio". It's supposed to adjust the volume automatically for commercials. But I don't think it works that well. Give that a try.
