Some of the keys on my macally keyboard have stopped working, including the numbers 5 and 6 (above the letters only) and 'delete'. Does it sound as if I need to replace the keyboard?

SOURCE: Keyboard Reset?

try To download the latest drivers for the keyboard that you are using, visit the following Microsoft hardware Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=MK

If the issue occurs again, connect the keyboard to a different computer. If the keyboard functions correctly on a different computer, the port to which the keyboard was connected on the original computer may be damaged. If this is the case, contact your computer manufacturer to inquire about how to repair or replace the damaged port.
If the keyboard does not function correctly on another computer, the keyboard may be defective. If this is the case, and the warranty on the keyboard is still valid, you can exchange the defective keyboard for a new keyboard.

good luck :)

If you call Microsoft Supplemental Parts (800-360-7561 toll free USA & Canada) they will give you a fax (716-447-7330). All you have to do is fax them the following:

1) To: Microsoft Supplemental Parts (<- rep said this was important)
2) your first & last name
3) address
4) telephone number
5) email address
6) photocopy of the bottom of your product, with a setting clear and light enough to show the Product ID information on the mouse

SOURCE: Certain keys on the Gyration GC15CK keyboard have stopped working

If this is hardware problem, it'd be hard to repair. I don't mean it's not repairable, but what i mean is i don't recommend since repairing a keyboard and purchasing a new item will cost you more or less the same.
Well try this, Press Fn + Numlock (simultaneously on both the keys) on the keyboard and check if it helps or not [press once and then type the malfunction keys, if not press twice or thrice]. Most keyboard with Fn key's functions can be deactivated or activated with this key combination.
Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Trying to set Ethernet setting and the keyboard doesn't have the right symbols. : and % not there

On a US English keyboard the colon is one key to the right of the letter L. The percent symbol is above the number 5 on the top row of the keyboard not the numeric keypad on the right side. If these keys do not work then your keyboard is bad.

Certain letter keys give me numbers instead of the letter on my verbatim wireless keyboard and mouse

Sounds like NUMlock, or another function key like that. Are those numbers on the keys themselves? That's a common problem for laptop keyboards that do not have number pads.

Above my scroll/# lock the lightbar is lit,and some letters produce #... i = 5 etc

Sounds like yo have the scroll lock or num lock turned on. If the scroll key is a colored key (the scroll lk lettering is blue) then you will have to Press and Hold the FN function key at the lower left portion of the keyboard then hit the scroll key to turn it off. When it is turned on if you press the letter i you get the number 5. If you press the letter O you get the number 6.

Notice that the numbers on the keys that have letters are a different color than the letters (blue most times). That means you have to Press and Hold the blue FN function key at the lower left portion of the keyboard then hit the key with the same color if you want the colored representation to happen.

Some laptops will use a Square Box instead of the blue colors on the keys. In that case you have to press and hold the key a the lower left portion of the keyboard that has the square box, then hit the key you want.

Number keys don't work right above letters on keyboard

You have to hold the Fn key, usually blue in the lower left corner of keyboard, for the numbers above the letters to work.

What are the names of kyboard and its keys ?

it is only for a computer keyboard hope it help from you.

A computer keyboard serves as a main operating tool for accessing and inputting data into a computer. The keyboard features many functions and keys that a user may never use, but is still essential to some users. Understanding the keyboard can improve computer knowledge and use.

QWERTY Pad

The "QWERTY" pad is main sections of letters on the keyboard. These letters are mainly used for typing and also as shortcuts in programs like Windows Movie Maker, Adobe After Effects and computer games.
Number Pads

The far right side of the keyboard features a number pad that resembles a calculator. This number pad is essential for programs like Excel, but can also be used to input numbers as a typing function. More numbers are just above the "QWERTY" keyboard that also feature symbols when the "Shift" button is used.
Arrow Keys

The right bottom of a keyboard features four directional arrow keys. These keys provide navigation through word processing documents and also serve as scrolling functions in web browsers.
F Bar

The top of a keyboard features the "F Keys," a selection of keys that extends to "F12" on most keyboards. These keys serve different functions. For example, "Alt and F4" exits out of a program. "F1" will start the typing helper in word processing programs.
Extra Keys

New keyboard feature shortcut keys at the top of the keyboard. These include shortcuts like "Power," "Sleep Mode," "Calculator," "My Computer" and "Web." Some also include media controls for movies and music.

My letter keyboard is showing numbers and not letter..please help. (advent laptop)

Laptops do not have as many keys as a normal keyboard so often they include the numbers over letter keys.
So, by mistake you pressed a ctrl or alt or [A] key that simply switches the keys from letters to numbers.
A light or indication must be ON on your laptop indicating that it's Numbers or Letters ON.

Find the key that changes the function and restore the function to letters.

Mac laptop keys are not showing letters but symbols and delete key not working. How do I unlock this problem?

Hi,

There could be a couple of possibilities :-

1. Faulty keypad
2. IC on the main board

Faulty keyboard is more often a problem. Even though there is no dust and dirt, faulty keyboard may result in all the above said symptoms. If you press a letter key, a symbol might be there. If you press delete key, it might not work. The best option what i follow in my shop is replacement of keyboard. There are certain days when i only replace few keys, but more often if this is a problem with more than 5 keys or with all the keys on the notebook, better to go for a new keyboard. For your laptop, always prefer hard keys as those are more durable than the soft keys.

IC on the notebook is again one of the reasons. This is usually a problem with old laptops, such as 5 to 7 years old. New laptops generally do not have this problem. If laptop IC is at fault, soldering is required to get it fixed. It needs a tech to confirm the faulty IC on the mainboard and then followed by replacement.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I took the letters off my keyboard (old Apple white) to clean. Now all the keys with the metal clip underneath aren't working right. Is there an easy solution save buying a new keyboard?

Apple does not make their hardware in a manner that allows an end user to mess with.

MacAlly makes replacement keyboards for less than an actual Apple keyboard replacment. Available at MacMall.com

Some of my numbers arnt working on my ice macally keyboard. the num 3, 6, 9 and - keys dont work at all

It may be due to many reasons:-
  1. The keys rear ends must have broken.
  2. Must be a faulty connection between the keys and their sockets.
  3. The connective sockets must have acquired dust.
Try encountering the above reasons. If problem persists, contact the dealer.
