I have a Philips DVD 750 VR that has worked in the past. A VHS tape can be iewed on the tv, however with the DVD, it will indicate that it is playing but the tv screen is black. I have tried different DVDs but the problem is the same.
Do you think it just shot craps?
The remote and the buttons on the player will change from vhs (I get a blue screen and a tape will play) to dvd (I get a black screen and there is no video when I play a dvd, although the player indicates that it is playing). The remote and the buttons on the player will change from vhs (I get a blue screen and a tape will play) to dvd (I get a black screen and there is no video when I play a dvd, although the player indicates that it is playing).

It may havee a problem with the button you need to press to switch from VCR to DVD, from what i understand and have seen this switch over is not automatic. On your remote you should have a control to switch from VCR to DVD. In addition on your unit there should be a button to switch from VCR to DVD. Try this and let me know how it turns out, if you are still having trouble we can setup a troubleshooting session.

Did it EVER work as expected with VCR audio through the HDMI or are we working through that right now assuming it can?
I don't have a detailed manual, but the rear panel clearly shows some analog-only outputs (and NO digital ones) for the section called DVD/VCR. Internally, I'm sure there are proper analog-digital-converters for recording VHS to the native DVD-R, but VHS VCR's are NOT inherently digital audio devices so I'm pretty sure you need to run an analog RCA pair for the VHS video.
ok cable sat wire goes into input of dvd-vcr input then coming out from the dvd vcr and into the moulator then a wire out to the tv now make sure your vcr is set to the right setting ...now you can record 1 cable..2.vcr dvd..3 modulator...4...tv make sure vcr is set to monitor
VCR is set with blank tape..Bring up vcr control on TV with television set on Chanel #3, go to menu
Follows procedure for progamming date, time start, time finish, chanel and.speed and single recording.finally click on menu and turn vcr off. Vcr lights indicate set for taping,,.Does no start to tape at requested time and lights indication taping ready stays on ??????
