Help with installation...i have no instructional manual

  • compaqutor Apr 20, 2009

I have this manual. It gives you 2 diagrams. One for 4 to 6 wires in the work box and one for 6 to 8 wires in the work box.
I followed Type A 4 to 6 wires because thats what I have. I have the wire from the breaker box and the wire that leads to my vanity light. Wired exactly as shown the switch does not turn my vanity lights on. There is a note onj the diagram pointing to one of the4 wires coming out of the switch leading to my light that says. This white wire is HOT only when used to feed power to a switch. What this means I have no idea. Its cryptic to say the least. Am I assuming incorrectly that the 2 wires coming out of the outlet are hot as soon as you have the breaker box wired up and the switch turned on? Or is the thing broken out of the box. I followed the diagram only thing I dont understand is what I mentioned. I wish they would explain that.

Power coming in from the breaker box: black wire will go to line-hot screw, and the white wire will go to the line-white screw. the switch wires coming out of the back of the gfci- 1 will go to the load-hot screw & the other black wire will wire nut to the black wire going to the light. the white wire going to the light must go to the load-white screw.

Wy is my GFCI triping without interference?

You have a short somewhere?
If you have AFCI (arc fault) instead of GFCI, then there is probably a loose wire

How you install a light and plug in in one switch

1) Copy following link for wiring combo device:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-switches.html#combo2

2) Neutral wire is required for outlet to work.

3) Outlet will be ON all the time.
Some combo devices can be wired so that switch controls outlet, but other models cannot be wired so switch controls outlet.
Look for break-away fin located between dark screws on combo device. If device has break-away fin, then switch can control outlet.

We are trying to install leviton combination switch in the old building and just two wires are coming out from the wall. how do we connect them to the switch? thanks

By two wires if you mean just a black and white wire then this is a switch leg and you cannot use this switch at this location. All you have here is the power coming in on the black wire an leaving on the white wire. The switch just breaks the flow of electricity. An outlet cannot be used here because there is no neutral wire. This is how a switch leg is wired. a8179fb.png

I need to wire a combination GFCI/switch using incoming 4 wire (red, white, black, bare) and outgoing 3 wire (red, white, bare) replacing an existing switch. How do I wire this properly??

Can you tell me where the outgoing wires are going to. Bare wire is ground goes in green color screw, white wire is neutral and goes in silver color screw, black wire is hot or live and goes in gold color screw. It is difficult to help you with little information. how do you know what is incoming and outgoing.

Leviton 8299 combination

first you must know which wires are hot from the breaker box and witch ones go to the device you are switching--lets call it a light bulb. The hot wires coming from the breaker should go where it says "LINE" black one on the "HOT" side and white one on the "White" side. One of the black wires hanging out of the switch should go on the "LOAD" "HOT" side of the switch, then attach the other hanging black wire to the black wire going to the light with a wire nut. Your white wire going to the light must go on the "LOAD" "WHITE" side or it just won't work.
