Zebra TLP 2844-z printer and when I turn it on the light is blinking green/red

To change from "page mode" (protrait) to "line mode" (landscape) you need to complete the following steps.
1. turn the power off
2. hold the feed button down
3. turn power on, the feed button should blink, release the button.
4. when the feed button blinks green, press and hold until it turns red or amber. release the button.
5. turn the power off.
6. hold down the feed button and turn power on, the button should blink and release. it will now print a calibration page. 4 blanks followerd by 2 text pages, the last saying "Now in DUMP" press feed to exit. on the first print, the 4th line down will say either page mode or line mode.

The red light means out of paper or ink ribbon. Some people chose not to use the ink ribbon and get thermal direct paper which requires no ink ribbon but the printer has to be told by the driver not to expect ribbon or the red light will come on. Also not having the correct paper height set in the driver will make the red light come on as well so check the advanced tab in the properties of the driver then click printing defaults. In the ZDesigner driver height and width are entered there. In the zebra universal, click paper output and enter the size.

I had the same problem. I found out later there was a small piece of label sticking against the sensor, thus blocking the sensor from sensing the end of the label. As soon as I removed the label (open the cover, it is on the top part) it immediately started to work as usual. Hope this helps.

Clean the "cover open sensor"

location: open printer, it's at the right hand side of printer, beside the green edge guide adjust thumbwheel, in line with edge guides.

Solid red light. This indicates the printer is in an error state and will not print until the error is cleared. Check to make sure the printer is not out of labels or out of ribbon if it is a TLP model.
A solid red light will occur if

• the printer is out of labels
• the printer is out of ribbon ( TLP models only )
• the printhead is open, not latched down all the way. Press down on the top cover of the printer to see if the error light clears and goes to green.
• the ribbon spool is slipping on the ribbon spool holder on TLP models:

There may be several causes to this problem.
1/ The lid of the printer needs to be firmly shut before the Red light changes to Green.
2/ If the ribbon has come to the end then the red light will come on, change the ribbon.
3/ If you have changed label size and not recalibrated the printer to the label then the RED will come on.
Any error within the printer will bring the RED light on.

Hold the feed button while turning on the printer. After a config label prints, turn the printer off and then on again, and try printing again.

Also, make sure the lid is closed far enough to engage the lid sensor. If the red light comes on again, press down a bit on the lid, hit the feed button and try to print again.
