External jack dx 959 given to me has problems. The external speaker jack has been removed, possibly shorted out. The radio RX is off two channels...17 is now 19. will receive audio but will not transmit. No response when checking SWR and no power output when keyed. when the built in meter is set to Mod. does indicate modulation when keyed. What do you think ? If the audio is shorted to the back panel, will this cause these problems? Thanks for the input. Jon

Sounds like you got a good radio to practice on . If it was given to you then you have nothing to loose except what ever you put into it. try hooking the speaker jack back up, see what it does??

SOURCE: North Star DX 330 HML has no receive

Radio dude, we'll try to help with the problem your having with your Northstar base. I assume you have checked all the controls to make sure they are functioning correctly? ok, based on what I'm reading for the problem, I'd say your looking at a bad solder joint on the main circuit board, or a close powerful station might have keyed up and blowed the front end out of your receive. There are 1 or 2 fet transistors in the RX chain and with the age of the radio, one of those going bad on it's own is a possibility. Sounds like it needs some hands on troubleshooting, are you electronically able to work on it?? Hope this helps in your search and let us know,, Mechanic

SOURCE: refurbished dx 959 from galaxy no modulation? no transmitt?

If there is no transmit at all, it sounds like it wasn't fully refurbished. If it is just low modulation then just turn VR16 and VR14 all the way to the left.

If its not working at all, send it back. It hasn't been refurbished.

SOURCE: power meter on my dx-979 barely moves off of 0

Well, some meters are set different than others,to see what is going on,you need a good WATT-SWR meter, but that is not a bad reading of SWR, you can get one at Radio Shack. You can not go by the meter that is on the radio,it,s probably not set right. hope this helps..

SOURCE: galaxy 44v no transmit or receive

Try replacing TR41 (2SA473).
Also check TR40 (2SC945), D78 (7.5 volt Zener Diode), and D79 (KB 262).

Turn the radio on.Now make sure its in cb not pa mode.Nowturn the squelch all the way to the left. Now turn RF gain and RF power all the way to the right.Hook an external speaker to the radio and see if it helps.By now the radio should be operating. If not then you have an internal problem..

Galaxy DX 959. SSB doesn't seem to work. The power meter needle moves in AM but not in SSB. I tried adjusting the bias between test points 7 & 9 to 50 mA via VR12, but can only get it down to 90...

on ssyou are some what familiar with working on radio's. just make sure before you pull your hair out aligning the radio that you made sure it definitely is not tx on ssb. b the.Mic gain will increase the modulation. it could just be a meter issue. confirm this by having some one on another radio on ssb the same channel listen for you. if he cannot hear you then the ssb is blown out.sounds likelike
