I had the same problem. Try cleaning the print heads. They tend to clog. Remove the cartridges, then remove the print head. Tilted slightly, it comes out easily. Run very warm to hot water over the print heads until they all run clear. Use a turkey baster to apply strong pressure to each head until it runs clear. Blow off the excess water with mouth or blow dryer. Insert into the printer and proceed to print. If that doesn't solve it, you might have a bad cartridge, but there isn't much that can go wrong with the cartridge. I have an ip4200 and an MP830. They have the same print heads and same cartridges. I have cleaned each twice and they work like new.

Colours are printing in yellowish greens and does not look natural. What can I do? Thank you.

Replace the colour cartridge -- you are seeing "mixtures" of only TWO of the THREE "primary" colours.

Canon Pixma yellow color problem

Either the ink you are using is not going to give the color you want, or you have print heads that are blocked.

Pixma ip4200 willl not print Cyan

I think the problm lies between the ink tank and the printhead. When this passage runs dry, sometimes it takes time for the ink to fill this passage again. Try printing again after a day or two.

Canon IP4200 printed great photos when new. My

Hi,

Although refill inks can be quite good, it is likely the cause. Several companies do make good refill inks for canon but they are specific to model lines and you have to be sure you get the right ones for photo colour.

The inks you're using are likely "universal" inkjet inks and are fine for everyday printing but are rarely ever colour corrected properly for photo.

My recomendation to all of my customers is always to keep a new cartridge handy for photos but to use the refilled ones whenever they are printing anything else as it will give you the best balance between print cost and print quality.

No 'clay' colour. canon pixma i 4200

I'm afrade I don't know what you mean by "Clay Colour".

For a Canon, usually you have Black, Magenta, Cyan and Yellow and you MAY have Photo Magenta and Photo Cyan depending on the machine.

Print out a test page and tell me what colour is missing from that page (compair it to the one in your owners manual or the driver).

Usually a missing colour is caused by a clogged head. Use the cleaning function over and over (try at least five times). If still not working, either the head is very badly clogged, has gone bad, or the purge unit is not working. Please make sure you are using OEM ink cartridges, as I have seen refill ink cause this exact problem.'

Try soaking the bottom of the head in water overnight (not the entire head, just the bottom part). If this does not work, you will either have to replace the head or disassemble and clean the purge unit. I'd start by cleaning the purge unit since it's free. If you're not sure, call your local service provider. They can test it using a known good head but it's likely not a free service.

Canon ip4200 colour magenta

the colors transfer to the printhead by gravity. the felt on the inktank must make intimate contact with the stainless steel filter in the printhead. I have a pixma ip 6000D that I had to replace the printhead inside of two years three times. the bubblejet circuitry in the printhead got burned out. New heads cost from $55 to over a hundred.

IP4200 duplicate ink tanks.

Hello there scubadave,

I've gotten in touch with Canon and have somethinga little different to try. At the very least the error should change.(Sorry, gallows humor). Please read this entire response before takingaction.

After the upcoming test procedure, I have included alink and procedure to contact Canon tech support. The assure me theywill replace any faulty tanks.

The purpose of this exercise iseither rule out ink tanks that are behaving or isolate the one(s)responsible for the dupliucate error. You should write down the results of thistest. Please perform the following:

1. Open the printer and remove all ink tanks.

2. Insert a single ink tank in the printer then close the cover.

3.Confirm whether the printer recognizes the installed tank properly. Ifit does, it will indicate it does not detect the other ink tanks, asthey are not currently installed in the printer.

4. Repeat steps 1-3 with another ink tank.

5.If the printer at any time indicates two of the same ink tanks areinstalled, the cause will be the last tank installed. For example, ifyou inserted an ink tank earlier, and you later inserted another inktank, and it said two of the same inks were installed, the cause of theissue is the last ink tank.

Click here for the Canon PIXMA iP4200 support page

Under description, supply the following info:

Error- Duplicate Ink tank problem on my Canon PIXMA iP4200
<Describe how error occurs>
I have replaced the <color in> question> tank, reseated it, yet the error continues.

Youwill also need to list what inks are being used in the printer. Statethe type of ink that is being used and the order that the tanks areinstalled in the print head.
Provide the exact part number (such as BCI-6C, BCI3eBk, etc.) if possible.

The Canon support rep assured me they will be glad to replace the malfunctioning tank(s) for you at no cost. Please
respond with the test results, and specify the ink tank(s) that were not recognized correctly.

They responded quickly, professionally and apologetically. They want to help get this resolved for you.

I hope this helps end the frustration you must be feeling. If you need additional help or clarification, click the ASK button.
