Question about Motorola Talkabout Distance DPS (10 Channels) 2-Way Radio

How to charge battery in Motorola Talkabout Distance DPS

I just purchased a used Talkabout Distance DPS 2-way radio. It came with the rechargeable battery pack but I don't know how to charge it. I can't seem to find any battery chargers for it, or a plug in type charger into the radio. The radio works fine on regular batteries but I'd prefer to use the rechargeable pack. Thanks for any help.

You can obtain a wall adapter style charger for your radio at your local Motorola dealer, or online at http://www.eradiostore.com/cart/index.php?target=products&mode=search&subcats=Y&type=extended&avail=Y&pshort=Y&pfull=Y&pname=Y&epcode=Y&q=htn8232

Sidenote: The rechargeable battery is good for about 2 to 3 years. You can tell the age of your battery by looking at the date code on the back of the battery above the stop sign. The first number is the year, the next two numbers are the week of the year. 915 would be 2009 the 15th week. (Or if very old it could be 1999 the 15th week.) A good battery, when charged will go an 8-10 hour day.

Keep both of your charge trays, replacements for these are no longer available.

Need battery tray for motorola sport 10 x

Unfortunately, the battery trays for this Sport 10X radio, Sport 7X and the later model TalkAbout Distance DPS are no longer available. In our repair facility we often get requests for these battery trays, and as a dealer we have not been able to get them for several years. Your best option is finding a used parts radio somewhere like ebay. In some instances the original tray can be fixed if you still have it.
Best regards.

Tip

TalkAbout Distance Charging & Battery Options

The Motorola TalkAbout Distance and Distance DPS radios have a rechargeable NiCd battery pack (HNN9056 and/or HNN9044). Use of this battery pack is the best method for powering the radio. This type of battery pack has a 18-24 month life expectancy. You can determine the age of your battery from the date code on the back of the battery above the stop sign. The first digit is the year and the next two are the week of the year. Ex: 919 would read 2009 the 19th week.

The DPS model came with both a NiCd battery tray and an Alkaline battery tray. While the NiCd battery pack is the best option for fully powering your radio, along with being the most economical option, in a pinch or when charging is not available the 6 Alkaline batteries will power the radio for up to 18 hours. Note: Replacement battery trays are no longer available, it is advisable to keep both trays. If one fails, you will have the other as a backup.

The TalkAbout Distance is a repairable radio. The consumer replaceable parts are the NiCd battery pack, belt clip, antenna and charger.

How do I find a replacement back panel for my Motorola 5700 talk about. Need 2.

Parts for the small size TalkAbout line of radios were never offered to dealers, other than batteries, chargers and accessories. Your best option is to purchase a used radio from ebay to scalp for parts, or possibly by contacting a vendor such as www.wirelesspro.com, who deals in lots of the smaller TalkAbout radios. They may have some which have been scrapped for parts.

The larger TalkAbout line of radios, such as the TalkAbout Distance and Distance DPS are repairable radios, and many parts for them are still available.

Best regards.

How do you charge the talkabout distance dps radio?

When facing the front of the radio you will find the push-to-talk (PTT)/monitor buttosn on the left side, and on the right side you will find a rubber flat which opens up from the bottom, and under the flap you will find the 2.5mm and 3.5mm jack. The bottom jack is the charge jack. OR you can also use a drop-in style charge with this radio (note there are charge contacts on the bottom of the radio.) All of this is with the thought you you have the HNN9044 or HNN9056 rechargeable NiCD battery installed

If your radio only has alkaline batteries they cannot be recharged in the radio (even if a rechargeable kind). Alkaline would require an external charger specifically made for the alkaline batteries.

Motorola Talk About distance dps battery tray bad. Where might i locate another b tray. THANKS! MODEL P24SRY03G2AA

Unfortunately replacement battery trays (both alkaline and rechargeable NiCd type) for the TalkABout Distance and Distance DPS have not been available for several years. We have had some success in repairing existing trays, here in the repair shop, if the damage is not too severe. As for a source, you might watch ebay for another unit for parts, or replacing your existing radio. Be certain to quiz the seller on the condition of the battery tray.

Best regards.

Need battery tray for motorola dps radio

[This is not a solution, but a commentary on the need for a tray. Please do not rate this post, as it is meant for informational purposes only.]

This is more common that you might think. The battery trays (both 6-AA Alkaline and NiCd rechargeable-style) have not been available for a few years from Motorola. From a nationwide repair center perspective, we find some damaged trays can be repaired, and some owners find a "parts radio" from sources such as ebay.

For those of you reading this posting which have the TalkAbout Distance or Distance DPS, let this please be a reminder to take care of your trays. Once the tray is gone, the radio is not functional, nor can it be repaired.

Best wishes on your search and please post back if you do find one.

Best regards.

Where can I buy repair parts for my Motorola T5720 Talkabout radio?

So sorry, parts have never been available for the TalkAbout line of radios (other than TalkAbout Distance & DPS). If you are looking to repair an existing T5720 unit, your best option would be to locate a like-model for parts. eBay can be a good source.

As for replacement batteries and accessories you can use the Motorola TalkAbout Accessory Store.

Best regards.

MOTOROLA TALKABOUT T5400

First check your batteries. Try the battery pack from a known good radio. If you do not have a battery problem, your issue is probably non-reversible. Sorry. This style radio is non-repairable. The repairable Talkabout units include the Distance, Distance DPS, the TA-7400 and TA-7200.
